Just wondering, got back after a weekend away (Left the PC on)
and the fan on the CPU Is making a slight clicking noise, as though its grating against a wire (It is not I checked) And I then wondered:

1) What are the signs of a dying Fan
2) What damage will be caused if the Fan were to die while I were not there to shut the PC down...

The Cooler is the stock AMD one and its been in use since April 2006 ;) And When I say In use I meen the PC is never off...

Most newish mobos have a CPU protect feature (user defined temp) that will shut down the system when the specified temp is reached so you should be ok there (have a check in BIOS under a section called 'PC Health' or similar).

As to a dying fan I've never had one thats just stopped working, they normally get clogged full of dust and make a really horrible noise.

Are you sure the noise is coming from the CPU fan? (did you stick your head into the PC?), is there a chance it could be something else? (Some older TAGEN PSU's made a weird clicking sound?).

Its an Enermax PSU, and TBH Not stuck my head in yet, just had my ear up the air vents, wasent PSU for certain, I could stick my head in and listen, I just try to stay out my PC as much as posiblle. about 7 times out of 10 when I go in my PC something dies.... Could just be me being paranoid but I seem to have a lot of computers dye on me... then again Maybe pushing a 1700+ to almost 100% Overclock for 2 years and never turning it off was a bit much.... Sufice to say, I have had PSUs blow, memory die, CPUS fry, Mobos not boot and graphics cards refuse to work.....
