What are your photography New Years Resolutions ?

Well I don't do enough as I would like at the moment, and now that I have a new job I have even less time, after some thought I think my goals for this year are...

  • Get to 10 Motorsport Events - I think I improved a lot last year so I want to build upon this, plus its a great day out with both the racing and the photography to enjoy (maybe even the weather too!)
  • Have at least 1 Photography Day a month - Go out at evenings or weekends for the sole purpose of taking photographs.
  • Print, Frame & Enjoy my pictures - I don't do this enough at the moment, even the pictures that I really love just end up archived on the PC.

If you've no idea how to build a site I'd say one of the template sites is the way to go - unless you have the money to pay a designer/builder. I have some web building experience and use ClicPic, can't comment on the others but ClicPic offers quite a lot of customisation possibilities so your site can evolve as you gain web experience and doesn't look to much like just another template site - I guess all are similar.

Clicpic seems pretty good, but im also reading that wordpress is relatively easy to use. Still think I might need an idiots guide or something :o

Edit: Quick question, are people building their own websites or using sites like zenfolio to do theirs? No idea how to build a website

Built my own (see sig) over several months. Didn't have a clue about websites before I started. Steep learning curve, but really happy I built my own as it is now exactly what I want, works how I want and I have learnt a new skill. :)

As for my photography New Years Resolution; Process more photos! I am still taking quite a few, but I haven't processed and uploaded any to my website for like 17 months!!!

So I have set myself the challenge of chewing through all of this years photos before new years day, and then stay on top of any new photos I take. Hopefully 2011 should be a decent year for photos as I am going to Scotland twice. One of the times is to get married on the shores of Loch Fyne, and our very own Raymond will be the tog. The second time is a week on Barra (On the outer Hebrides) so hoping for some otter shots there. Then I am going to Norway for 2 weeks in August to revisit where I was brought up. Really looking forward to that and should hopefully result in some decent shots... as long as I process them!

Oh, and I should probably use my 5x4 camera more this year and have a play in the darkroom.

My site is wordpress. Just needed basic understanding on how to access and upload into your own server, install it and the following instructions :)

Well every year I say, I must use the camera more, and I don't.

So this years Resolution is to stop buying equipment that never gets used and sell what I've got :(

I can definitely say that the last one requires the least effort yet is very rewarding.

Mine:
  • Get out there and take photos when I have spare time, instead of sitting inside.
  • Double the number of photos I get in the Uni paper. (Had 2 in last term)
  • Shoot something other than sport for the Uni paper.
  • Upgrade my body from a 400d if i get work over summer.
  • Improve and above all, enjoy it.

Shoot far more. Doesn't matter what of, just do more.

I already have the lenses i want (70mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 10-20mm, 70-300mm ) but after having a D80 since launch i've still only had 7000 shutter ops. No where near enough.

I say this every year though, never really happens.

Wordpress is a little over-bloated for photography, I think!

A custom site is the way to go, currently still coding my site but looking good so far :)

Well last years resolution was to enter the photography competition every month and I just about managed that (although a couple of the themes I really struggled with!) so thats going to be my resolution again but in doing so also try to improve the quality of my photographs. I'm happy with the equipment I have at the minute so i'm going for quality of shot - still so much learning to do!

The main two are to actually enter the competition here every month and decide where my photography is going.

I'm doing enough commercial work in my spare time (mainly for friends and the like but still, it's paying money) that the cost of hiring a D700 or D3s every time is getting towards making a purchase worthwhile now. My D200s are also showing their age - if I'm going to be making money from it then D700 (or more likely the D700 replacement) is the logical move, but for personal and travel photography it's a big heavy body (and would mean using the 24-70 as a standard zoom too).

If it's going to stay a hobby then the D7000 makes more sense. I'll probably end with one of each I fear but before I buy anything I need to get a feel for where I'm going with it all...so working that out is my goal for the year.

I need to sort out my website portfolio and decide on which photos to keep on there. I plan to have my flickr as a photo dump, and my website for my best :)

I also need to start getting some more gigs. Got plenty of opportunities down here, just not going for them. Already started though, got a dubstep gig on the 22nd of Jan :)

1. Learn how to use my camera a little better.
2. Learn how to use the 430EX II I got for Xmas.
3. Go out and take more photos. I still feel an idiot taking photos with people around in random public areas so I have to try and get over that or take pics at some kind of events :(
4. Start posting pics for C&C - maybe a Flikr account or a website.
5. Buy a nicer lens - not sure what I want to get due to the above 3, so once I've worked it out then I'll sort it.
6. Plan what camera I want to upgrade to in 2012.
