The 306 cab looks a great choice, but it seems like insurance will be really expensive and there are quite a lot of problems with the car. Shame as I like the styling (:o) and it ticks the boxes nicely (31mpg though, ouch, but expected).

You've not even passed your test, did you think insuring a sporty car would be cheap?

I said on confused that I had just passed my test (to simulate results from my hopefully pass in a months time).

I was expecting something high (£1,500ish), considering that my age (22) is offset by my lack of proven experience, but £3000 is a joke!

:(

Just passed test = even more risk.

There is a reason most people don't hoon around in a convertible a week after passing, sadly :(

Maybe I am being a little bit unrealistic. A real shame because I don't really want performance, and I certainly am too old for ambitions of driving like a ****. I just want an open air car for the style of driving I want to do. Eg I'm driving to a mates house in the South of France.

If I cant drive, we'll have to cycle. :( :p

Okay, doing so for my dad dropped the price down to £2,400 tPFt, and £2,700 for comprehensive with £150 excess.

If you're getting a cheap car, put the excess nice and high on a comprehensive quote, as it likely won't be worth your while claiming anyway if you did write the car off. Add both parents if you can, having both was the cheapest way I did it.

Your postcode seems to be a D rating (on a scale of A-F, good to bad) so you're not going to be seeing particularly brilliant quotes regardless of what you do.
