What book are you reading...

Just finished 'The Forever War' by Joe Haldeman.

Gonna give 'Autumn' by David Moody a go as it seems quite popular in here.

Nearly picked up Autumn today. Is it along the same lines as Hater and Dog Blood? Not read Them or Us yet but if the Autumn series is as good I'd quite like to read it.

Not read the Hater series sorry, however it was a friend who enjoyed both Autumn and Hater that suggested I try Autumn so I assume they are similar.

He starts the first book introducing the characters, and then the event, then the rest of the book follows the characters as they try to adapt and survive in their new world.

Flipping this around how would you rate Hater?

Honestly I read it quite a while ago and can't remember too much about it. At the time though, I couldn't put it down. It sounds similar to Autumn in that there is an event (Rage virus thing) that the population has to try and survive. I'll be reading it again soon once I get Them or Us so can try and be more specific. It's probably worth a read if you've enjoyed Autumn from the sounds of it.

Just finished Edward Lee's Going Monstering. Probably shouldn't have read it on the bus using my Kindle on the way to work in the morning, judging by the rather loud reaction one woman had when she obviously decided to nosey over my shoulder.

Now onto Brian Keene's Urban Gothic. Pretty good so far.

Now onto The Mammoth Book of Apocalyptic SF by Mike Ashley.

John Dies at the End was fantastic. It was like a crazytrain full of talking turkeys rubbing themselves in gravy and sleeping in ovens. But it was none the less one of the best books I have read in a while, and well worth getting a copy at the £6ish it is now while it is still being printed!

The Hater books are not like the Autumn books. Autumn = Zombies, Hater = Raging humans.
They are without a doubt the best zombie books out there in my opinion.
I read the Autumn books years back, before he got published, so they have probably been polished up a lot more. There is also a lot of free fiction in the autumn world on his website 'last of the living'. He focuses on how people deal with the situation and not books filled with mindless gore. Although there is enough gore to keep you happy!

The Colorado Sequence - decided to read a freebie after finishing the Nights Dawn Trilogy, oh dear is all I have to say, lucky it's short...

What did you think of Nights Dawn?

Not really a fan of Hamilton but I thought that was superb.
It was great if you can ignore at least one massive universe breaking plot hole.

Quite disappointed that Hamilton missed it to be honest as it spoils what was otherwise a great read.

Just read, very quickly, Closure Limited by Max Brooks. I thought it was a proper novel when I ordered, but it turns out to be a small collection of 4 short stories - one of which feels completely at odds with the rest of the World War Z 'universe'. Anyone else read it yet?

Which was that?

Its been about 5 years since I read it and I can vaguely remember something irritating the life out of me when I was finishing it :p (despite enjoying it)

Probably the only story arc I didn't enjoy was the other habitat that got sucked into the other universe, that bored me, the rest was great.
