What book are you reading...

Over the last couple of days iv started and finished the 1st 2 Dexter books, enjoyed them both and have just bought the 3rd one which should be here in a couple of days :)

Finished Ghost Story of the Dresden Files series already. Really enjoyed reading it from start to finish, even if I felt a bit lost at times in relation to previous events, but I suppose that's what you get from reading a book out of order. Can see myself picking up the rest of the series.

Also finished reading The Ambassador's Mission by Trudi Cavanan, which I absolutely loved, and may well end up buying the rest of her books (I believe theres a series set before the one that Ambassador's Mission is part of?). Does a very good job of enabling you to read it without having read any of her other books before, I never felt lost for a second. Well defined characters, and plenty going on.

I just started the Magicians trilogy whcih I think is set before The ambassador's mission?

Just read The Painted Man by Peter Brett - it's pretty cool  Great idea for a fantasy world, decent writing and really looking forward to reading the sequel next.

There is a sequel to this called the desert spear. I read them both and then realised they are books 1 and 2 in a 5 part series with the next 3 books being released over the next 5 years!!!

Seems like it from looking into it! Will have to pick it up at some time. My bank account and bookcase will be crying :(

Yeah, Desert Spear is a fantastic followup to The Painted Man, can't wait for the third book tbh.

Completely forgot about these until they fell off my shelf last night. Has anyone else read the Mortal Engines quartet? It's been a while since i have, but i did enjoy them. Only looking back now do i realize just how ridiculous the concept actually is :p

There's more of them?! I only have the first :( Lovely book, even if it seems a bit simple at times. Love the whole concept of the world and whatnot.

I love this series of books. There's also a prequel to the Black Magician Trilogy which is also very good. And the Rogue is the sequel to the Ambassador's mission. The Traitor Spy trilogy's last book is out in August this year I think.

Her other series The Age of Five is also well worth a read if you like her work. :)

Yup, three more of them :p

Actually, when i finished the last one i do remember reading something about some more books in that universe, that perhaps weren't part of the series? But i felt the last book wrapped things up nicely so i didn't look into it.

Just finished 'Persuader' by Lee Child. I like his Jack Reacher books but this is so far my least favourite.

About to start 'The Gun Seller' by Hugh Laurie. I never knew about this until I stumbled across it so I thought I'd give it a go.

I read that a little while ago, its a good read, if a bit disjointed at times.

World Without End by Ken Follet. I don't know how he manages it, but somehow his straightforward, descriptive narrative is really compelling. There's no real subtlety, but I can never put his books down.

I'm about to read Ender's Game to see what all the fuss is about, will I be impressed?

I just finished it and probably the answer is no.
At the time it was written it might have been seen as more boundary pushing and shocking (like Catch 22), but the 21st century is a more cynical time.

Also the aliens are called 'buggers' which is kind of amusing for a British English audience.:p

Dune is also on my list of "Books I should have already read". Maybe I'll read that first instead...
Same here. I can't believe I haven't read it before, I have had it for must be about 10 years but never started it. I have been taking it to work for the last week or so though, just haven't got round to starting it yet.

Just finished first book of Malazan series, Gardens of the Moon - love it! It's awesome can't wait to get cracking on the second.

Lord Rake is a srs bad-ass

Just finished reading Anthony Beevor's book on D-day and the landings in Normandy, the guy has certainly done his research. Going to pick up his books on Berlin and Stalingrad soon.

Going to be starting A Game of Thrones this evening and have A Clash of Kings waiting to.

Just finished readin game of thrones - a storm of swords on to the fourth book now. Lots of twists and I like how some parts of the book overlap to tell the same point in time from different characters. It's very in depth story telling and actions of one character in one chapter can be seen, heard or felt by other characters in following chapters.

It's nice to see a character yelling out through fear in one chapter and then another character hearing it far away in another.
