What book are you reading...

Just bought Stieg Larsson Millennium-trilogy from the kindle store. Currently halfway through the first. Seen all 3 swedish movies but had to read them to, to get the full story.

Finally back into reading again, started off with Joe Haldeman's: 'The Forever War.'

Onto the second novel now.

On Book 5 of the Malazan books, and erm not particularly liking it at the moment. Couple of chapters in and really struggling - does it get better?

I wasn't particularly a big fan of this one, I found it one of the weaker of the novels in the series as the Edur story wasn't really that compelling and was a bit slow paced. Perservere as it sets a lot of groundwork for later happenings, also the bits in Lether are good, especially the Bugg/Tehol parts are fantastic. The two of them and their back and forth is some of the best in the series.

Just finished 'The Painted Man' by Peter V Brett.

I thought it was very good. An easy read, not deep or heavy. Not sure whether to dig in to the sequal, 'the Desert Spear' straight away.

I've also got Steven Erikson's 'Gardens of the Moon' but since I'm going on my hols that might be a bit much for a holiday read. I've heard it's a bit painful to get into!

OR I could just finish off 'The Hunger Games' trilogy with 'Mockingjay.

Decisions, decisions... :)

Second Peter V Brett is very good but the you are stuck in the waiting game for book three like me :p

Gardens is great, fantastic, just wait for it to unfold and don't expect to be able to understand everything straight away.

I'm looking for some help, I'm going away on hols soon and want a couple of books available on the kindle before I go. Problem is I feel like I've read every "decent" book in the fantasy genre and I'm running out of options.

Have just started Patrick Rothfuss' second book, the wise man's fear, but I will have finished that before I go. In addition to this I have ready everything from the following -

Peter Brett
Tolkein
Pratchett
Feist
George R.R Martin
Erikson
Terry Goodkind
Robert Jordan
Chris Bunch
Terry Brooks
Robin Hobb
J.V Jones
Trudi Canavan
Ian Esselmont
Joe Abercrombie
David Gemmell
James Barclay...

Anyway you get the idea, pretty much every well known author, I've probably read the majority of their books. Does anyone have any recommendations for some of the more obscure authors in the fantasy genre?

Two that fall into the grey area between Fantasy and Historical Fiction:-

Bernard Cornwell - Warlord Trilogy (Arthurian), Alfred the Great Series (Saxon vs Danes)
Conn Iggulden - Caesar books, Genghis Khan books

Tad Williams - Memory, Sorrow and Thorn gets some good reviews, but I've not read them.

Glen Cook - The Black Company

Majority come in 3 book omnibus editions. He was the bloke who was (one of) Eriksons inspirations.

Also heard good reports on Adrian Tchaikovsky and his fantasy series though I haven't read that myself yet.

Just finished "Carrying the Fire" by Michael Collins, the 3rd astronaut in Apollo 11. Fascinating insight into the space programme of the 60s. I really recommend this book.

I'm now reading an entirely different book by Reed Timmer, an outrageous, outspoken looney who goes storm chasing. Its a bit tabloid, but its an interesting read and I've learnt a lot about extreme weather in the process. Good little book, if a bit brief, it leaves you wanting to read more; "Into The Storm".

Finishing "A Dance with Dragons" at the moment, then I'm going to give this "Wool" series a try after reading how good it's meant to be..

I dunno if I should read Norwegian Wood by Harurki Murakami or Kill Your Friends by John Niven.

Reading The Way of Kings: The Stormlight Archive at the moment, enjoying it quite a bit actually.
