After sturdy service I have just "pensioned off" this PC;

- Pentium III, 450 MHz
- 256 MB memory
- 2 x 20GB drives (biggest the BIOS recognises)
- usual video / audio cards
- network card.

Completely operational with XP pro installed.

What can I use it for - we already have a P4 PC each and a spare with Linux for testing - it really is "spare".

What can I use it for? Or just give it to charity after wiping drives (many times.....)

Multiple things. There's the obvious file server, or you could go for something like a gaming server for your LAN; or maybe even a hardware firewall.

download and file server is fine.... i just use XP for my one and remote desktop :)

does the job fine

Same although when I tried using a similar spec remote desktop and high bitrate streaming videos couldn't be done at the same time which made it abit carp (only 256mb ram though).

I have a Linux dual boot an another PC so don't need that.

I have a Helios media player near my TV and a NAS device (connected via devolo mains adaptors). I run the Helios Neoserver on my main PC - I suppose I could "clean off" all of the software (except XP) and run it as a media server ?

Will look at other links - thanks
