What centre?

Been bugging me for a while that my centre speaker (an old huge Tannoy) does not match my fronts, which are old Mission M71's. I am pretty sure there is something wrong with the Tannoy as the sound is very flat, and no matter the settings on the receiver it just does not perform as it should, or once upon a time did.

The way I see it I have a choice of either upgrading the entire front part of my set up to a matching set, which as far as I can tell, to improve on sound would be expensive to say the least, and therefore probably not worth it. Or alternatively, try to locate a centre that matches the Missions, which would probably mean a second hand mission MsomethingC, but I don't know which one would match the 71's. Probably nothing spectacular, but second hand I could probably go up a few levels and it still wouldn't cost much.

The receiver in question is an old Yamaha RX-V1400.

i think the tannoy is probably fine its just that the missions are drowning it out, you really need to make your centre match your 2 fronts. the backs dont really matter so much....id try and hunt down a mission centre.

M72 centre would be a good choice IMO.

Its definitely not the fronts drowning it out. I've tested it thoroughly and the only way I can describe how it sounds, is like its in mono rather than stereo, just that flat, almost dead hollow sound.

Can't find anything for a Mission M72 centre. Do you mean an M7C2?

Yep, tried that, also changed cables, tried bi-wiring. Also tried another Centre from downstairs which improves things, but is totally wrong for my set up. It's knackered.

The m7c2 is a fine centre, but it is a hefty speaker in itself. Would be a good match for the m71's. I had one with a pair of m72's and it sounded pretty good all hooked up to a denon 3802. I have since gone back to stereo.

M7C2 is a great centre speaker for matching with those speakers, made a fair difference to my setup when i swapped that in for the M7C1 i was using (which became the rear centre in a 6.1 setup).
