I know I know. I could just go and buy one but its been a while since I removed a chain on a bike and I have Sram stuff. Is there anything I should look out for? Like, the pin needs to be renewed or put in a special way when re-installing?
Whether you're using a SRAM or Shimano chain just use the appropriate SRAM powerlink (9 or 8 speed) to reconnect the chain rather than a pin. Buying a new Shimano chain it will come with a pin, I think SRAM come with a powerlink. On my MTB's I always use Shimano chains with a SRAM powerlink, just personal preference on using Shimano chains.
I use workshop ones in one work but tend to use http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7843 in halfords and on the trail. Never had any issue with it unlike the cheap ones. I run sram chains but when I use shimano I join it with a powerlink. It just makes life so much easier.
