Hi all.

Wondering if you could offer me some advice here. I am a Java / c# .NET developer who has dabbled web work before - but nothing major. I'm comfortable with php, but not at all fond of designing lovely user interfaces.

I have been volunteered to create a website for a small charity that is based overseas (this came about as my OH spent the summer over there working with the charity).

I'm not sure the best approach here. Any site I've created before has either been just for me to edit, or I've always told others to get in touch with me if they want anything changing on it.

With this site, I want to be able to set it up and then leave it alone. Let the charity edit the content if they wish, but have it locked down enough so that they can't break anything. They are not techy in the slightest, so I think the idea of editing an HTML file and uploading would be out of the question. It'll need a web-based WYSIWYG editor.

So, I need a CMS. CMS makes me jump to WordPress. But part of me is now wondering what else is out there, is WordPress totally OTT for what I want to use it for. Is there anything else that I should be looking at?

If I do use WordPress, any tips and tricks on how to set it all up? I'll search around the subject, but it's always good to have information of other people to digest.

Thanks in advance.

I quite like concete5 - it's easier to set-up and use than Wordpress in my opinion if you don't need all the extra plugins Wordpress offers.

They offer a version hosted on their site, but you can also download it and install it on your own server (which is the better option).

CMS made simple is as it says...but I still believe Wordpress is a viable solution too, the sheer number of themes and plugins and hacks make it soooo good...

Joomla is one of the more complex CMS out there as far as I am aware.

I've tried to use it several times but just resort to Wordpress time and time again.

As for wordpress, just create an account for them with limited access and they won't be able to mess anything major up :D
