Well I have none whatsoever (except my aforementioned Latin O Level), never affected me in the slightest. In fact nobody has ever asked me what grades I got.
Eh I did standard grades for the obvious reason but got eight 1s. Not all that important but I guess it gets you into better classes for Highers/A-Levels and that ought to help the grades in them which in turn helps with going to a better uni and so on and so forth.
For english lit I didn't even read the book (1984) and still got an A. Just shows how stupid it is. You get a choice of three questions,
1) About the writing technique of a certain section
2) About a character
3) Write about a certain section that is given to you in the paper.
I did 3 as it gave me the text, I then read that part there and then and never read any other part of the book.
Got B's & C's in 9 GCSE classes, a few A'levels but never did the Uni thing. Made fap all difference to what job I'm doing now. The only grades/subjects that most employers look for are C and above in maths and english.
That said, I've just started a degree 20yrs after leaving school and they took into account my school qualifications as acceptance! I would wage I've now forgotten at least 80% of what I was taught in school, much the same as what people forget after passing their driving tests .
In all honesty, looking back unless you are looking to go for higher education then I wish I had done a yts in a trade/skilled background as that would have been much more benificial than o'levels and a'levels. I fell lucky getting a decent career but there are so many others who have degrees and qualifications coming out of their backside that can't get on the career ladder.
I was shamefully apathetic with my revision, but managed to get B, B, C, C, C, C, D and another D. Enough to get me into college to study music, did very well with that and am now reading politics at degree level.
It's depressing that it's the best part of 20 years ago now but I got A(ext) in Maths and B & C in English Lang. and Lit. respectively.
The (ext) on the Maths was because we sat an additional extension paper on top of the normal papers at the time and if we passed that then we got (extended) added to our grade.
