What do you tell current employer if you have an interview?

I applied for a job on Monday and have a interview on Thursday, they phoned up this morning and the only times they had was 11.00 or 3.15, I said 3.15 and told my line manager that I'm am going to the doctors and will have to leave at 2.30.

I was wondering what others say, I feel a bit guilty as I like my current job and employers, on the other hand they would be dissapointed if they thought I was looking for something else.

I wasn't really looking for a job, my friend saw it and wanted some advice for a covering letter, I have more experience than him so I applied to see what they are offering.

I just looked up the location of the interview and it is 3 miles away from where I work probably too far to walk without turning up sweaty, I think I'll have to get a taxi.

No. Turned out it was given to the software solutions developer's (female) and ICT manager's (male) son

He took it well enough, but then there's a fair amount of turmoil at our place at the minute.

I would tell your current employer. 3 miles is nothing for a walk, why should you be sweaty?

I wouldn't have told your current employer what the time off was for unless cornered but I wouldn't have lied about the doctors either.

A taxi sounds like a good idea.

Best of luck :)

I told them i was going to negotiate a contract with someone else because they didnt pay enough and the branch manager was a clown.
Ok they said.
I then gave them one weeks notice instead of the month required and told them if they withheld any outstanding invoices i would take goods to the value of those invoices off my truck, drive to mablethorpe and throw them in the sea.

The last interview I had I did the same as Gilly, but I already had voulantry redundancy and was only working a couple of weeks to help out, so there were no arguments.

Otherwise the Doctor/Dentist excuse is a mainstay :D

The thing was I did not know the time until this morning, I thought it would be better to have 2-21/2 hour off for a 'doctor's appointment' than have a day off ill. I probably wouldn't have been able to book a holiday day as we are too busy - have got to work late tomorrow.

i wouldnt tell them until you have a confirmed offer on paper tbh. to do so could be detrimental to your current position, your asking for a period of time off in short notice, they could easily refuse the time off.

I have never done that before, but I wonder if mentioning it, depending on how important your position in the company is that they may offer a pay rise or similar to try and keep you there?

I book a day/ half day off if I ca, no point rocking the boat by saying you're having an interview and at the same time your noy lieing
