What do you think of this system for £350

Not knocking you if you want to go Intel fair enough, but the i3 does not blow the X4 out the water

Note that some of the comparisons are lower is better, overall theyre not too dissimilar in terms of performance, however as you state she wont upgrade the cpu, than for future use, a proper quad core is more likely to be better than a dual with HT as more and more games/apps get coded to use the extra cores, its upto you obviously just wanting to make sure youre as informed as possible

Edit: It may also be worth noting that for watching movies etc the Intel is slightly better as it has better sound, however for gaming, even light casual gaming, the AMD set up has better integrated gfx

I was actually looking at that comparison you linked. I may have exxagerated the differences.

The intel does look better in the important tests though. When you say the Intel has better sound, what do you mean by this? I was pretty clued about about the old 775 sockets and ddr2. I know nothing about the new technology that's out now. Integrated memory controllers on the cpu, graphics and now sound? Very confused?

She does watch a lot of movies? So i3.

You obviously know more about this than myself, so I am inclined to take your word for it. If it was you, would you go for the AMD over the i3?
