What film did you watch last night?

I saw the Collector yesterday.
8/10.
The cat burglar is one of the most stealthy characters I have ever seen on film.
He was most stealthy than a cat, literally.
I saw The Collection first (ie. reverse order), but enjoyed them both.

Glad you got around to seeing the first. I know a lot of friends who've seen the second without even being aware it's a sequel.

So many simple cringe moments in the first, the one that gets to me most for some reason is the pin on the telephone ear piece.

Lucy - 7/10 - I really enjoy Luc Besson films so I've probably rated this higher than most. It seemed to be a mash up of several other films and film styles which didn't always work or add to the clarity of a quite confusing story. However, I left the cinema mentally energised by the last 10-15mins although judging from the amount of confused people leaving the cinema I think the ending is probably too much for most. Scarlett Johansson did a reasonable job of showing her losing her humanity and Morgan Freeman was, well Morgan freeman, but I really enjoyed every second Min-sik Choi was on the screen (Old Boy). The special effects were decent although the CGI car race through through Paris was a weak point.

Overall while I enjoyed it I don't think it'll do well in the cinema, it's too difficult to understand and the ending will seem a bit "meh" to most I'd guess.

Randomly ended up watching (500) Days of Summer last night on Channel 4. I started watching the first 10 minutes out of idle curiousity and it just grabbed me. Ended up watching the entire thing :)

Really suprised. Far from the normal rom-com that I thought it was (probably more rom-black-com?). Emotionally draining at some points, mainly due to the fantastic chemisty between the leads.

8/10

It's a romantic story that is actually romantic, rather than soppy. The term "romantic" is so watered down these days.

Jaws. Haven't seen it in years - Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw are just brilliant. Still not sure why chief Brody shouts no whistles though.

Pretty sure a few scenes earlier you see him reading a book which says sharks are enraged by high-pitched noises or something similar?

Gravity - 8/10

A enveloping experience, even though it's ending and a pivotal mid-point moment were spoiled by all the clips shown around the time of the awards shows earlier this year.

Makes me wish I had seen it back in the cinema, IMAX even.

Insomnia

Part of the" Robin Williams has died so let's put films with him in on " season

Watched this a few times now and never disappoints. Great story, beautiful location, great reminder that Robin Williams was a decent actor in these creepy guy types of role and a very strong performance from Al Pacino. He really captured the descent into madness/desperation/Insomnia perfectly. Think they must have both really enjoyed having these roles.

Wasn't aware this was a remake so might seek out the original for a look.

I love films that are actually romantic AND well performed/good story etc. The 'Before...' films are the essense of that imho

I assume you have watched 500 Days of Summer? Awesome movie. Romantic slant and cracking story. The fact that Zooey Deschanel is in it is a bonus.

Brilliant soundtrack too. The first time I watched it one of her indoors friends were round and they were settled down to watch this 'chick flick'. I grudgingly started to watch it and after 5 minutes I was hooked.

Of course, if you have seen it, all the above is irrelevant. :D

Absolutely agree.

I actually haven't seen it, will have to be put on the list of films to watch with the girlfriend.

Thanks for the recommendation!

If you haven't seen it... watch 'the girl next door'. It was advertised as being smutty and american pie-esque. In reality it was quite sweet and had a lot of heart :)

cockneys vs zombies

4-10

Terrible ending, few laughable moments but a bit shocking...

Always like watching Alan Ford on screen, reminds me of Snatch. ^_^

Blue Jasmine

Loved this film will have to give 8/10... I rarely go on to want to watch a film twice in the short term. Blanchett's performance was sublime.

Went on to watch a much earlier (1977) Woody Allen film.....

Annie Hall

Don't know why I never got too see this until now....this won 4 oscars back then, beating Star Wars as best picture:eek:
Fantastic loved this one too, this gets 8.5/10 for me....though it's no star wars!

Saving Mr Banks - magnificent. Right in the feels. 9/10

Locke - couldn't get past Tom Hardy's Rob Brydon does an Anthony Hopkins impression. Fell asleep. 5/10

Starred Up - heavy stuff, but well worth seeing. 8/10
