What film did you watch last night?

Saw Lucy last night - like someone mentioned above it felt like a mash up of several films, most notably the matrix to me and for what is a 90 minute movie it felt like 1/3rd it was just drawn out CGI sequences, 'stock' footage from documentaries and a really pointless driving sequence through Paris. I wouldn't say it's a hard story to understand or follow but it just didn't really seem to have any depth or make you feel a connection to anyone. It was well acted though but with everything else being average I'd only go for a 6/10.

I lost it half way through it just went stupid imo.

Make sure you choose the right "Girl Next Door"...there is another version which is utterly sadistic.

Have you seen the 2007 film? I haven't. Don't like the sound of it either.

The Most Disturbing Movie You Will Ever See!!!

Either you will love this movie, or you will hate it. But either way, you will agree... this movie grabs a hold of you and it won't let go!

Regardless of what actually happened in real life, or was portrayed in the books... this movie provokes a strong emotion in you. And it takes you to a place you don't want to be. You will feel disgusted, sad, angry, sick, and that's just for starters.

Warning: This movie is not for the squeamish!!! For me personally, it made me feel helpless. Because you are sitting there watching the movie unfold, and you can't do anything to stop it. And that for me, was the worse feeling of all.

Technical aspects: The acting is great. The dialogue is obscene. The nudity and sexual situations are disgusting. But it brings a realism that could not be achieved otherwise!

Bottom line: This movie will give you a small taste of what it's like to be victimized, or be near someone that has. And it will force you to rethink everything you ever thought about in life! So be warned!!!

(New) Total Recall - very good actually. Liked the post-apocalyptic background, good background music, colony has a feel of Deus Ex to it.
8/10

And it has a hot looking Kate Beckinsale.

The Kite Runner - was disappointed by this, I thought it was an Afghan film about the start of things going wrong in that country but no, it was an American film about how great it is once you get to America. That is a bit harsh, it looked quite authentic and played out well enough if in a contrived way. 3/5

I retract my earlier statement about Man of Steel.

It turned out to be very good, the scenes at the end were brilliant and I enjoyed the story.

8/10

Pretty funny, I would say like 90% of people I've seen comment on the film say it starts off okay and gets stupid at the end, and would have probably scored it oppositely to you, high not that long in and low by the end.

Godzilla 2014.... I don't really know, 3/10, 4 maybe.

The characters are all too irritatingly stupid. The acting wasn't horrendous as I expected, they didn't have good dialogue in general but in films like this the acting can often be a hell of a lot worse.

There were some really weird, rather out of the blue, really nicely done shots/scenes in terms of cinematography, mostly near the end, that looked pretty fantastic and with some good(albeit overused) music but compared to the rest of the film they felt very out of place.

But the story line, literally nothing the military did wasn't out of this world retarded, completely and utterly ridiculous in every way possible.

Lets not forget that this command centre was seemingly on top of the hill on the other side of a bridge, there is a fleet of navy ships with literally thousands of military people on board them all. The main guy is at the top of this hill looking down on San Fran, they get these guys to... an airport, to fly in and drop on the city... which is across the bay. They had no trouble travelling to the airport to get on this plane, they apparently had no trouble with the plane, but they couldn't drive across the bay and walk in by the thousands.

One of the silliest things about this film is, you usually have all the cool "lets blow crap up" military response.... and they decided on a plot that basically nullified the military so half the film was a fleet of advanced weaponry having warships just following a submerged Godzilla. Randomly starting a fight with Godzilla as it got to the city rather than..... before, which wasn't explained, and the whole nukes on a train, with like 5 guys with rifles, heading towards a city even though these things were supposed to follow the nukes so they could have you know.... taken them to NOT a city. Also, nukes, safe enough for people to stand next to(because the radiation is contained) but leak enough radiation to attract the monsters....

whole thing was frustratingly stupid without much good action at all.

The Way, Way Back.

Shy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter. Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park.

This was great. Great summer film.

There's nothing to dislike about this movie. The actors do a terrific job all around--from the scene-stealing eyepatch kid to Allison Janey's lush to Steve Carrell's first role as a d-bag. Kudos to the kid playing Duncan and the guy playing his...boss? mentor? friend? saviour?--or all of the above. The scenery is lovely and convincingly real--no beach McMansions with $6,500 Wolf ranges. It shows what a real beach community looks like. The '70 Buick Estate Wagon is sublime and had me kvelling.

But it's the story that really makes the viewer smile. Duncan is a lost, lonely, mess...14, stuck with his mom whom he loves (but doesn't really respect), her douchebag boyfriend, boyfriend's daughter, and not much else. He finds his way in a way that defines a coming-of-age story. The Water Wizz guy--channeling Bill Murray in Meatballs in an obvious homage--does a great job, never losing sight of his own challenges in life while helping young Duncan emerge from his painful shell.
