What film did you watch last night?

Lucy - 5/10, great concept, terrible execution

Having seen it yesterday in massive IMAX-o-vision ... 7/10

The script is kinda backing the ending into a corner, but it was nicely done. Visually stunning as with all Luc Besson films, and hits all the right notes for the action sequences. Excellent performance from Scarlett.

I agree with that, especially the start.

The trouble with Lucy for me was that on paper, it should have been excellent. All the right ingredients were there. I just left the cinema with a profound sense of 'meh' and I could hear many people around me echoing the same kind of sentiment.

I felt mislead by the trailers, was expecting Limitless with a Nikita type assassin, instead I got sub-superhero silliness and ridiculous plotholes.

She shows the french cop her powers by dropping all his colleagues around him, then shortly afterward when faced with the 6 oriental thugs, she faux-fights them instead of doing the same thing again

It's a shame, I love Besson and i'm warming to SJ lately but there was something really off about the entire movie. Visually it was stunning and that's why i've been so generous to give it 5/10.

Some of the scenes in the trailer seemed rather ridiculous as far as modern SciFi goes. Interfacing with matter and tapping into electronic networks? Heh. Haven't seen it yet but I found the Limitless trailer more rounded and the film matched what the trailer put forward. Planning on seeing Lucy soon though so will see for myself if the film lives up to the same standard (I'm imagining it won't and will be more a brain off > enjoy the action movie).

I saw Lucy last night, and no, switching your brain off won't save you either ;)

What a pile of crock...and I'm a big Luc Besson fan, but that was just such a pretentious, arthouse-esque failure of a film, he must have disappeared up his own backside in that one..

Crude and jarring symbolism that was simplistic to an extreme, a dull over egged plot trying to be profound, delivered by a pretty terrible performance by Freeman. Some of the dialogue was laughable in trying to be so intense and serious.

But I'll still give it a 4/10 because it was visually impressive in places, and it was mildly entertaining, but given the cast, crew and director, it vastly didn't live up to it's potential.

The Tournament - 4/10

30 assassins in Middleborough (lol) fight to the death for a prize of 10 Million. Kelly Hu was hot. Film was abit silly and could have been better.

Man on a Ledge - 6.5/10

Suprisingly I quite enjoyed this. Turn off your brain and don't try to analyse everything or else you'll be facepalming haha!

I watched Lets Be Cops last night, it was surprisingly better than i thought it would be, some genuine funny moments, and some gross moments. Altogether a solid 7/10 for me.

Jerry Maguire. Not seen it before. Pretty good. Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise. Cuba avoiding Jr. was excellent. The soundtrack is good, as you'd expect from Cameron Crowe.

I imagine Todd Louiso's casting in High Fidelity owes a lot to his performance in this.

Went to see Lucy tonight. An odd film with some silly scenes and acting in parts. Would have been better if it took itself a little more seriously, the ending in particular is daft and the thought experiments flawed. Still yet to see a SciFi film as good as inception was.

6/10

Schindlers list

Haven't watched it for some years. Still reduced me to a mess come the end, truly horrifying but such a well shot film considering it was 1993 it feels like a really old classic. Spielberg does well with using black and white and the dramatic lighting effects like on neesoms face, it gives it that authentic old movie effect.

It's one of those movies if you haven't seen it, you must

10/10

I wish I was easily pleased....I'll look for stuff to be positive about but GOTG is so poor on many levels...

Now winter soldier was quality marvel.....8/10 easily :)

You crazy. I enjoyed Winter Soldier, but Guardians is in a whole other league. Decent characters, funny, full of charm, looked ridiculously good. Best Marvel movie by a country mile!

To me, Winter Soldier was just another Marvel film; superhero, a girl, a monster/bad guy, some skyscrapers, rubble, mild peril, victory, the end. That's why I just aren't a fan of Marvel films/superhero films in general. The analogy to me is the COD series, just re-skin each new film and re-release it, a la Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Captain America.....GOTG was a lot different in that sense.

To add to that, the title of the film, Winter Soldier, had little bearing on the plot, the actual Winter Soldier was not really instrumental in the plot at all.

Yeah but...

calling it Captain America: S.H.I.E.L.D is infested with Hydra and Robert Redford is corrupt would have been a bit of a spoiler!
