What film did you watch last night?

Room

The subject matter of this film is pretty grim, yet it managed to be uplifting. Very well acted and although slow to get going, kept me interested till the end.

I love Mad Max Fury Road too, which i enjoyed more than Spotlight (which isn't really a movie to enjoy) but I can appreciate why it won.

I enjoyed Mad MAx although I thought Spotlight was a greater sum of its parts like acting, cast, storyline and script than MM, which, while fantastic, really did solely rely on 100MPH breakneck action to elevate it.

Just watched Frankenstein, I had seen the trailer on another dvd and thought it might be ok,well I was pleasantly surprised it was pretty damn good,an interesting take on the story. No big name actors but a good performance nonetheless.

The Seven Five - True life docu-movie about a notorious police precinct in 80's New York. I really had no idea the scale of violence and corruption in the city at that time. In the region of 3500 murders a year in NY alone.

Well told story from the mouths of those who were there and were responsible for the crime in that area. Unfolded like a movie. Need to find more documentaries like this. 8/10

Meet the dirtiest cop in NYC history. Michael Dowd stole money and dealt drugs while patrolling the streets of 80s Brooklyn.

Mad Max fury road: saw it when it first came out at the cinema and didn't enjoy it at all - it should be a film that I enjoy. Unfortunately not, 3/10 for me - amazing effects but just found it very dull and everything tom hardy does seems to annoy.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E: Low expectations and almost turned off after 10 minutes but carried on and ended up enjoying it quite a lot. Not a classic, far better than spectre, worth a watch 6.5/10

Big disappointment, I found it dull and samey, not sure why it would get any Oscars, just lacked imagination.
4/10

Only 8?

Its a clear 9...:p

Yurusarezaru Mono (Unforgiven)

Japanese remake of the superb Clint Eastwood Western (which is among my all-time favourite films). Stars Ken Watanabe.

Follows the original's plot quite closely, is in the same period, but set on Japan's north island. Was actually really good, if not quite up to the original. Did feel some of the character building was a little brief (though the 'Schofield Kid' equivalent character was a bit more interesting). Katanas replace guns in a few scenes, which is fun.

It's on Prime

7/10

Ant-Man - 7/10.

Some very good pieces and some good laughs, but the whole premise is a bit silly imo. I did enjoy the cameo and end credits.

And Evangeline Lilly - Kate from Lost - what did they do to her hair?! They made a hot chick, well, not as hot :(

Sicario for like the fourth time.

Love almost everything about it. Can understand why some have found it a little hard to follow but I think that's sort of the point.

Haunting soundtrack and beautiful cinematography by Deakins. Probably would have snagged the Oscar if it weren't for that pesky Lubezki.

Brilliant movie with one of the best endings since Whiplash.

It won loads of technical Oscars because - brace yourself - it's a technical tour de force.

It didn't win any for acting, screenplay, direction, blah blah because it's inferior in those fields.

My favorite film of last year, thought it was utterly superb.
