What film did you watch last night?

Everest - Credit for its attempts to portray the dangers of the mountain but felt it didn't really show just how hard it is to climb until it all went Pete Tong!

good to see John Hawkes (of Deadwood fame) in something big as well as he's quite a good actor imo

Is it very jumpy?

I like ghostly horror things but dont like jump scares. To me, they are the used to disguise a poor horror movie.

No - theres maybe one or two - it's not really a horror film in the traditional sense. The horror / supernatural aspects are really just background to what happens to the family.

I really would not bother with it though - although the screening was only a third full you could hear people being :rolleyes::mad::( on the way out...

I saw it last weekend and thought similar.

It wasn't particular action packed and there were few memorable scenes between the climbers. It kind of left me wondering how they managed to fill up 2 hours.

It has been said already but the way people perceive rating a film here can be funny. Apparently "awful" warrants a 5/10. To me that's more like an "ok" or "not bad" score. Awful would be 1 or 2, surely? If it isn't, then what is 1 or 2 out of 10?!

1-2 is awful definitely, hence why I gave San Andreas 2/10 and stated awful :)

On another note, you know when you look at certain words and you see them a lot and you repeat them over in your head, they become funny to look at? it's hard to explain, but the word awful is one of them for me right now.

I've already said that the film was good technically - less than 5 would have to be a disaster on all levels.

If a film was really only worthy of 1 or 2 it would be unlikely to get a cinema release.

So a couple of films at the cinema last week:

The Witch - 8/10

A truly evil film, fantastic performances and one I thought about over the next couple of days. The film would have been better had there been English subtitles encoded due to the language of the 17th century. Not a jump out of your seat horror.

The Other Side of the Door - 3/10

Utter rubbish imo. A few jumps here and there, not really a great film and i would not waste money on at the cinema.

Zootopia - 9.5/10

This is really good, fantastic even. Probably the best film this year that I've seen, there's only one minor nitpick but that's just the end credits music performance, other than that... Thankfully no kids at the showing, this is a film for all ages, kids will love it and adults will enjoy everything that goes over the heads of children. Disney knocked it out of the park with this one.

Room - 8/10
Pretty stressful film to watch (especially if you have a little son yourself), but it is very well done and gets straight in to it. Brie Larson does a fantastic job and can see why she won the Oscar, however no idea why the 5yr old didn't get a nod for something? He was amazing!! Even my wife at one point thought she couldn't carry on watching as it was too much for her.
Highly recommend watching.
