What film did you watch last night?

Captain Phillips - 8.5/10

Had me on the edge of my seat for a while.

The Siege if Jadotville - 7/10

Enjoyed it. I'm finding it difficult to figure out how
the Irish didn't manage to lose a single man?!!

Alien: Covenant.

They said Ripley Scott could not make a better Alien follow-up movie than Prometheus. They were wrong. They were so wrong!

Some minor issues notwithstanding, Covenant is a near perfect sequel to Prometheus. It resolves the David arc, the Shaw arc, the Engineer arc, the Xenomorph arc, and the previously unsuspected Walter arc.

Following the well established Alien tradition, we have another strong female lead—this time Katherine Waterston—and because she's a strong female lead, we already know she'll still be standing after all the screaming is over.

Michael F. Assbender is back for more, because why the hell not.

Fans of Goran D. Kleut (Skinford, and The Tunnel) will be delighted by his debut in a major film production.

I rate Alien: Covenant at 26.64 on the Haglee Scale, which works out as a stunning 8/10 on IMDB.

Logan: A great end to the Xavier and Wolverine characters played by Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman. A darker, more violent story, courtesy of Deadpool's R18 success. It's the Wolverine we've all waited to see, with aspects taken from Old Man Logan and X-23. Some nice twists and character development along with the action scenes make this a little different from your average hero movie. Great acting all around. I'm sad to see Jackman and Stewart finally retire these iconic characters that they've made their own, but they've had a terrific run.

Monsters: A weirdly ethereal, almost magical story as a mismatched couple end up trekking through the central American jungle to get back home to the US. The difference is that this jungle has been colonised by strange and unknown alien creatures which the world has tried to quarantine into the jungle. Unfortunately some of these alien octopoid animals can be up to 300 metres tall, and seem to be fascinated by electricity and knocking down large buildings. The creatures are a background to the two Americans trying to get back home, and the connection they forge as they experience the jungle, the aliens and landscape surrounding them. We experience their confusion and wonder as they make their journey. This is a slower, more thoughtful sci-fi movie where explosions and guns are not evident.

Mosters 2: Dark Continent: This takes the premise of the first film, and moves it to the middle east. With a dash of Generation War and Jarhead, we follow soldiers dealing with insurgent attacks in the wake of 'Murica's efforts to destroy the monsters now infesting the middle east. Where this film falls down so badly is that the characters are unsympathetic, and behave stupidly as things fall apart after an IED attack that leaves the squad running across the desert. The film tries to recreate the other-worldly quality of the first movie but with minimal success. I just didn't like the characters or the way they behaved ie, screaming and crying when they should have been protecting each other, time and time again. It gets tiresome and boring. The screaming, shooting, and explosions add nothing to the concept of using the alien creatures as a backdrop to a lonely and desolate adventure in strange lands. A fatally flawed film that totally misunderstands what made the first film work, and gets it's characters badly wrong.

These Final hours (Netflix)
Australian end of the world movie. Understated but very good. 8/10

It's utterly brilliant and left me feeling quite numb towards the end, i've watched it multiple times and always have different feelings on how I would act in the same situation as the main protagonist.

Wonder Woman , 5/10 not bad was a bit slow for the 1st hour , cant remember WW being as strong as Superman though and being able to fly in the comics.

Alien Covenant (2017) 6/10

I seem to be one of the very few people that enjoyed Prometheus so hearing ok reviews for this I was anticipating that I would love it.

It was ok. Aside from the stupid decisions that the crew continually seemed to make :

Who the hell goes onto an unknown planet without a mask of any sorts on?????

It was relatively entertaining.

I will watch it again but the reality is that these new movies are not a match on the original trilogy ( I try to forget about the 4th movie!).

Split (2016) 9/10

Excellent movie and quite honestly I was gripped from start to finish.

McAvoy was excellent in his role and absolutely stole EVERY scene he was in. A brilliant performance.

I was able to predict the ending, and thought it was pretty scripted from about midway through the movie.

The link to 'Unbreakable' was excellent and now I have to rewatch that as well now.

I did just that after watching Split and was blown away all over again. It could be the best super hero movie. Unbreakable is an easy 9/10! Bit of trivia - Quentin Tarrantino has it in his top 20 movies of all time list.

Eye in the Sky

Got on my nerves a little, trying to push an incredibly obvious agenda on me when I just wanted them to go ahead with it the whole time.

I enjoyed almost everything else though so it gets a 6/10

Arrival

Saw this twice at the flicks and picked it up on Blu Ray last night. Just as floored by it as I was the first time. Love almost everything about it, especially the questions it has me pondering each time I finish watching it.

I watched this the other night as well, personally I found it quite boring, maybe I was just expecting more action.

I had just watched Aliens a few nights before so maybe that's why.

Aha yeah that's a juxtapose right there xD

Although, both do have big overarching themes about motherhood... there might be an interesting think piece article to be had here :P

Gotta join the Baby Driver hype train..... 8.5 / 10

Not exactly Oscar worthy, but a thoroughly enjoyable action/heist musical :p

Not sure when you will ever see a chase scene set to the thumping tune of Hocus Pocus by Focus.....rock flute FTW!

Dangal - 5/5 just beautiful, watched it without my sound system, regret it as I played through bits of it with it and it was phenomenal.

LOTR Two towers - epic! 5/5
