What film did you watch last night?

Priest - 6/10 Film's like this getting made a lot recently, but this was better than it should have been, nothing special but very watchable.

Started watching 'Joes Apartment' after a friend mentioned it. Turned it off after 40 minutes, am all for silly comedys and tend to enjoy them but this was just ****. Terrible, absolutely terrible :(

Well I watched a lot this weekend!

Die Hard - 9/10 Rickman steals it.
Die Hard 2 - 6.5/10 Has its moments but feels a bit too setup?
Die Hard 3 - 7.5/10 Good, Irons makes a good villain (Not as good as Rickman) and Samuel L Jackson delivers the goods but is a bit too by the numbers.
Die Hard 4.0 - 8/10 Really like this, have seen it many times but love the action (Even if slightly over the top) plus I have a geeky side so the high tech aspect appeals to me and it also plays Willis's age well.

Blade - 7.5/10 Starting to show its age a bit now, with some aspects being a bit cringeworthy but still some impressive action, especially for its age (13 years!).
Blade 2 - 8/10 Much deeper plot, some great sequences and a good fleshed out villain. CGI hurts it though especially during the fight scenes.
Blade Trinity - 7/10 Don't think this is terrible and I am a fan of Reynolds wit and think he plays off Snipes character well. Jessica Biel is good to look at and some very nice action scenes. Villain knowhere near as imposing and some bits really drag.

Currently watching Hostage :p Seen it before so 8/10, Willis is a slightly softer less one liner McClane but some good tension and Ben Foster really shows his acting skills and again the plot is fairly well done.

This is the last action film I will watch in a while though...

Watched a few over the weekend:

Outlander - 7/10 Maybe a little high but this film did a lot of things better than it should have considering its budget. I loved the creature design thought it was very original and creative and made good use of CGI. Also liked the viking setting. The general plot was ok but it did have all the usual cliche's and acting was very average in some parts.

Count of Monte Cristo - 8/10 Really liked, it well made, good performances and have never read the book so most of it was new to me.

Rounders - 7/10 Love films about poker/card games in general, well acted but felt the end game was over very quickly without any tension. John Malkovich also really hammed it up.

21 - 6/10 Following on from Rounders, liked the glitz and glamour of it all but really don't like Kate Bosworth. Although liked Lawrence Fishburne's part.

Not a film but recently watched Band of Brothers for the 3rd maybe 4th time. Fantastic series, acting really is the best i've seen - 9/10.

Currently watching The Pacific for the 2nd time, script is knowhere near BoB but does well focusing on a different part of the war and the actors all do well with what they're given, plus some very impressive action sequences. Good but won't go down as one of the greatest war movies/series like BoB will in my opinion - 7/10.

Will disagree with the above although I can understand why people don't like it.

Drive - 9/10 Film just works for me, visual style, soundtrack I thought was superb. Can probably say the film is similar to Collateral in feel and visuals. Although I think maybe 10/15 minutes could have been trimmed I thought Gosling was fantastic and the scenes of violence were so much more effective because of the limited dialogue. Probably won't see another film like this in hollywood for a while.

Sex Drive - 7/10 most films like this are fairly terrible but this one although not being anything special did have some really funny 'bits'. Rumspringer!!!

I saw Abduction last night.

Overall, 6.5/10.

Have to agree with your comments, should really have hated this and despite Lautner having some 'questionable' acting skills as said, the first half was very well setup but degenerates into typical action fair. Although still generally enjoyable action fair as it had a fairly decent budget behind it. Was very surprised as most critics reviews have absolutely panned it but I get the feeling they focused on Lautner a bit too much ;)

7/10

Watched Avatar on Blu-Ray again, maybe 3rd or 4th time i've seen it. It is overly long, I watched half last night and thinking I was near the end realise was only an hour and 40 minutes in! Watched the other half today and despite some lack of originality I found it very enjoyable. Its the kind of film I can just sit back and get immersed by the pretty colours - 8/10.

War Horse - 5/10

Very Spielberg, beautifully shot, fantastic soundtrack, many young actors acting much more mature than they should be. But...the main actor seemed very wooden and I just thought he was generally poor. Other actors fared better Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch but they were only onscreen for a brief amount of time. I did just feel the story was generally lacking here and found it watchable but nothing memorable which is very un-Spielberg like.

The Core - 7/10 A guilty pleasure of mine :D A younger Aaron Eckhart and Hilary Swank journey to the centre of the earth to restart the planet's core which has stopped spinning. Good fun and an entertaining cast but also utter cheese.

Chronicle - 8/10. Very original take on the superhero genre and the handheld camera did help the immersiveness especially with the flying. Really helped that all 3 characters were likeable and had good chemistry. Not perfect as the film takes a much darker turn quite abruptly rather than a smooth transition but the ending is very well done, the switch to CCTV cameras is very well done and gives a greater impact.

Also for anyone else who has seen it:

I found the 'landing' after they first start flying hilarious, especially after Steve is hugging and kissing Andrew and Matt just comes falling down with that yelp :D

Castaway - 6/10 Probably the 10th time i've watched it since release although not in the last couple of years. I generally find the film a bit worse this far on. I don't think its particularly well crafted and Hanks seems to slip into his Forrest Gump way of talking on several occasions. Isn't a bad film but its not really a smooth flowing story as it just jumps 4 years and he's escaping!

Sleepers - 8/10 Seen it a few times over the years but this was the probably the first time i've watched it from start to finish and understood the story properley (Think I watched it when I was in my teens first couple of times). Amazing film, brilliantly acted on all levels and satisfying conclusion where half the fun is watching it all unfold.

John Carter Blu-Ray - 9/10 Realise it got a panning but I think it's great. The budget shows and love the whole world that is created. It's full of cliches and chunky dialogue but it just suits it and is acceptable in my opinion due to the age of the novel it's based on.

Yeah watched this last night, I thought it was ok and agree with the above.

I would also give it 6.5/10

I'd give it a 7.5. Didn't think it was a great film but did think it had some great characters which is what made me like it more than I probably would have for a Tim Burton film (Absolutely hate him as a director, one of the most unoriginal original directors out there for me).

Plus Eva in THAT red dress. Actually make it 8.5 :D

The Wicked

why oh why did I watch this and why has it got such a high IMDB rating ?

It was that bad in once scene you could actually see one of the film crew crouching down in the corner. 0.5/10 purely for the fit birds.

Remember to look at the AMOUNT of votes. 9.3 is damn good for IMDB but when its only 11 votes...

It's also known that on IMDB some studios do rate their own films.

Watched it a little while ago but started watching it again today.

Life of Pi - 8.5/10 Very intelligent and beautiful to watch. Some people may find it boring and for me it was a 'pretty good' film until the end which made it for me and made me appreciate the rest of the film that much more.

Some great comic dialogue as well especially from such a young cast. My favourite being:

The whole of Pi's family sitting around the table when hes about 16. His father trying to convince him that sailing to Canada and leaving India is a good idea.

Father: Think about it, we'll be just like Colombus sailing the seas
Pi: But Colombus was searching for India!

Brilliantly delivered :D

This is taken from a review I read last night when I got home from the cinema which pretty much sums up why I came out feeling the way I did. It's got a lot of valid points which I agree with.

I'll be honest here... This movie does not do justice to Superman. I mean, for a person who doesn't know anything about Superman except that he flies around in a blue suit, will find the movie exceptionally good. But for a person who has ever tried to read Superman or watched Superman stuff before, this movie is going to be a disappointment.

The movie doesn't portray what Superman stands for. For the last 75 years, Superman has been a pacifist. He JUST DOESN'T KILL...NO MATTER WHAT.. HE JUST DOESN'T KILL....

SPOILER ALERT: 1. The movie shows that the blue suit was given to Superman by Jor-El. But this hasn't appeared in any version of Superman so far. In fact, its Martha Kent, who gave the suit to him.

2. Clark finds the suit on an abandoned Kryptonian Scout Ship. Now the point to be noted is... the ice around the ship was found to be over 3000 years old... So the ship must have landed there over 3000 years ago... While Clark's age is shown to be only 33 years... Does that mean Jor-El sent a ship to Earth 3000 years ago, with a suit that he wanted to give as a gift to his son 3000 years later??? 3. Jonathan Kent didn't die in a tornado... he died of a heart attack in all versions of Superman ever published...

4. The Genetic data of all kryptonians was never a part of Superman's body cells.. In fact, there were only a handful of survivors which escaped in the bottled city of Kandor.

5. Clark Kent grows up on Earth and spends 33 years of his life adjusting to his powers... Zod does that in minutes?????? 6. The much awaited Superman's Rippled Shield of the house of El which was much advertised... I didn't see in on Superman's suit... I saw it at the end-credits...

7. Superman goes super-sonic??? Blasphemy.... He is the guy who can travel faster than the speed of light... and they only manage to make him go super-sonic??? 8. Superman never lets innocent civilians get hurt... NEVER... He will give up his own life to protect them... Yet in the entire fight sequence he never tries to take the fight away from Metropolis. Instead he keeps on ramming Zod into buildings and brings down half the city...killing God know how many...

9. Helicopter sequence... Superman saves the guy who fell from the Helicopter which has gone out of control... But he lets the pilot and remaining crew perish and crash to the ground.

10. Superman coughs up in smoke... as shown in the movie itself... when he was a kid... he saved a bus from drowning... and then saved Pete Ross too... He is able to hold his breath under water... In the oil- rig scene... he stays under water when the oil rig explodes... When he takes flight for the first time he goes in the orbit in the outer space... all of that... and amidst a little smoke... he stars coughing like he has contracted Tuberculosis??? 11. Superman collapses and "BLEEDS" from the mouth when he enters Zod's ship... Dude.. seriously... Kryptonite makes him weak... and he becomes like an ordinary human in presence of a Red Sun like Krypton had... But never does he BLEED...

12. And the best one of all of them... Zod is trying to kill a few people with his heat vision... Superman has Zod in a vice and he is holding Zod's head... perfectly capable of directing Zod's heat vision wherever he pleases... or he could have covered up Zod's eyes with his hand... But instead... He chose to break his neck... Wow Superman... way to stand by everything to symbolized for the last 75 years...

Believe me when I say this... the movie was good.. but it just wasn't Superman... it was some random guy in a blue suit who flies around killing people.

Won't comment on all the points mentioned, and I don't think the film was the best ever but most of those points are COMPLETELY invalid due to this being a reboot of the character, what has come before, comics, films, TV has no bearing on this. Hell head over to IGN where they have an article called 'Superman does kill!' to prove how wrong certain people have been (And the biggest surprise for me as I had forgot was that he killed Zod Superman 2 so just don't understand peoples point about him not killing).

Evil Dead - 6/10

Nasty, mean and very well shot. Do think I am now 100% de-sensitised to gore as although it was brutal and VERY realistic it didn't really have me flinching (Would also say the best gore parts were in the trailer anyway). I understand the originals are cult classics but storyline wise didn't find it exceptional.
