What film did you watch last night?

The Prestige - 7/10

After so many recommendations in the Shutter Island thread I couldn't resist.

It was good, not as good as I was expecting.

*spoilers*

What killed it for me was the whole Tesla building magic teleportation device crap, it just seems absurd to me and ruined the pacing of the film. That and some of Bales scenes seems really horribly forced and wooden, also his accent was dire.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I do hate to be one of those people who yammer on about the book being so much better as if I'm the only one who reads anymore, but the film falls so short of the book it's criminal. Huge sections unexplained, whole stories completely ignored, character relationships missing, quite important elements of the plot different, and a good bit of just making **** up.

So it's hard to give an objective rating knowing how good it could have been. If i'd seen the film on it's own maybe 6.5/10. As I've read the book, 4/10.

wow, i will just have to read the book now
myself and the wife watcehd this, and the 2 sequels and we'd rate the first film a solid 9/10, excellent film which we enjoyed greatly.

Judge Dread.

Clean comic book version, making sli stallone the perfect guy for the role.

Average everything, from the plot, screenplay and sets. "I ammm the lauuur" stern faced stallone gives the film added character, and makes it a good watch.

Can't wait for the new version.

Same and agree with all points, hes definately well suited for the role.

I also watched the original nightmare on elm street and case 39 last night.

Case 39 was better than I was expecting with some really good acting.

Dogtooth - 8/10

Probably the weirdest film I've ever seen. It's like The Virgin Suicides with Joseph Fritzl in charge or something. Father keeps his family locked up in some sort of compound and only leaves to go to work, bringing in all the supplies that his wife and unnamed children need, including the security guard from work whom he brings in to sleep with the son. Queue full frontal nudity and sex in the first 5 minutes, and it gets more screwed up from there. Incest, pornography, felicide with garden shears, hunting fish in a swimming pool with a harpoon gun, head trauma by video recorder, impromptu dentistry...

And as if that weren't bad enough it's in Greek with subtitles.

Weird, but really quite good.

Lol someone was telling me about how that worked when we were going out to Nando's for lunch the other week. Needless to say it's not a good time to be talking about such things!

I found the premise interesting but it sickens me even thinking about so i'll definitely be giving this one a miss!

This evening I watched "How to train your dragon" in 1080p.

Quite literally blew me away, absolutely loved it, a real enjoyable film.

I have no issues giving this a 10/10.

Why only 3 Rave? - I've not seen it myself but GF read the book

Very very slow with long scenes of her just wandering through this fantasy type place. Good to look at on Blu-ray, but it takes a long time to get through the story. Was a shame as it looked good and generally seems to get good ratings.
