What film did you watch last night?

The hunt on netflix

Really enjoyed this. It's no citizen kane but it's a fun little hunting humans film and worth a watch.
Her mouth movements baffle me tho.

Watched a great Russian film on Amazon Prime last night - Spacewalker - Tha Age of Pioneers.

"From the acclaimed team behind Wanted and Apollo 18. March 1965. In the heat of the Cold War, the USA and the USSR fight for supremacy in space, with both superpowers competing to be the first to have a man walk in outer space. No price is too high and no risk too great. Prepare to step into the unknown with this fascinating look into space travel."

Bit over sensentionalised and I think they added more 'problems' than was in real story but the film was well made, good characters and I enjoyed it more than Apollo 18.

He's done **** TV as well. Ruined Altered Carbon.

Amen to that with altered carbon, however id say twisted metal was a fun ride and if season 2 ever gets done will be watching.

I think his next captain america film is a very risky film, people are use to A+ star power and material and only recall CE but lets see.

Alien Romulus (2024)

I wasn't expecting this to be any good, especially after catching the trailer at the cinema. But it wasn't as bad as it could've been.

I liked the visuals a lot, the sound design and score were great and the story wasn't too bad. The subtle nods to previous films were ok.

But it was too obnoxious at times, bordering on including anything to get the fanboys and nerds reaching for their special sock.

I also didn't give a fig about any of the human characters at all. Almost to a point of rooting for the Aliens or Dr Rook.

All of the other Alien films have had characters to care about one way or another, even the weaker films has someone to love or hate.

But in this one they were all just meh!

Having said all that, I'd still watch another one when they make it

The Terminator - 9.5/10 (4K version)

Just got the 4K Blu-ray. What a film, so 80s, great action, brilliant soundtrack, gritty, dark, fantastic practical effects and set pieces. The police station scene is just amazing. Always been one of my favourite films and will always be the better of the two films to me. T2 is the ultimate blockbuster, but this is just a better all-round film for me and it has Kyle Reese in it.

This 4K version is great, it looks ace and there’s a weird irony in the fact it had some AI processes applied to it! Naturally it highlights some of the practical effects, but it adds to the charm.

Is @BUDFORCE your dad by the way?

Elevation.

I must be desperate.

Actually, it was quite a good Saturday afternoon film. Story had more holes than a teabag, but was watchable. 4/10

Finally someone else who appreciates The Terminator is the better of the first 2 films. I’ve seen The Terminator over 100 times in the, almost, 40 years since I first saw it at the cinema.

On The Waterfront (1954)

Watched yesterday afternoon.

A Marlon Brando master class in acting. The fact that it holds up 70 years later is amazing really.

Many of the older black and white films I've watched, performances come across as over acting or overly theatrical, by today's standards. But Brando is a lot more natural and believable.

Most of the other major actors up their game and hold their own. But as a consequence some of the smaller roles come across as very wooden compared to the main cast.

But like a lot of films of this era, it feels more like a play than a film, mainly because there's so much dialogue. But it's still very watchable, but maybe doesn't have the same impact it would've done back when it was made.

8/10

Love Actually (2003)

Never seen it before, seen a few clips here and there.

It's ok, a few laughs here and there. For me, there's too many characters in the film and they feel a bit thinly written as a consequence. But as it's a show case for most of Britain's acting talent of the time, they all give a good account of themselves.

Technically my first Christmas movie of the year, but it won't be on future Christmas watchlists.

The Count of Monte Cristo 2024 , never watched any of them before

3 hour runtime kept my attention throughout weird to say yet it still felt bit rushed wanted more revenge but still enjoyed it

Bad Boys 4 - Whatever it is called - 8.5/10

Oh man. I don't remember any of BB3 (says a lot) so I suppose I went into this expecting the worst as a result.

Well I got to witness the legendary Martin Lawrence back on his hilarious form and I haven't laughed so much in ages. The scene at the nightclub shootout and Martin with the Jellybabies and some punch fountain was downright hilarious.

Reggie going full on John Wick defending the house was the absolute highlight of the whole film. Martin and Will's chemistry is still solid but there was some strange oddness with Wills face in this film - it was like it was constantly enhanced whenever the camera was on him, it looked seriously odd.

The story was pointless this time round and the bad guys were rubbish but the ride towards the finale was a lot of fun. Seeing a certian cameo at the start had me doing a Leo Di Caprio pointing at the tv meme impression. Overall I enjoyed it a lot.
