What film did you watch last night?

Following on from only just getting round to watching The Godfather recently, I watched The Godfather Part II last night. 9/10 for me - was an incredible film and pretty much instantly ranks up in my top 5. I don't think much needs to be said about the film's critical acclaim apart from that it's well justified. I thought it had a different feel from the first which I enjoyed and that feel made it stand out more, the story was slightly disjointed and jumpy which made it lose that extra point to me.

Will always prefer The Godfather personally, but Part II is a very good film! :)

If you’ve not watched Part III yet, I’d recommend the ‘Death of Michael Corleone’ version which was released in the last few years.

And his scene with Christopher Walken in True Romance he holds his own, but it's still Walken that makes it so memorable.
I think it's Walken as well.

I think Walken is a great actor, A View to a Kill was possibly one of the worst James Bond films ever made*, certainly the worst Roger Moore. However he was in my opinion by far the best bond villain, he was about the only good part of that entire movie ....and the soundtrack by Duran Duran I guess.

* Discounting any Daniel Craig bond movies because I do not acknowledge those.

Wishmaster (1997) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120524/

I can't recall where I saw a clip of this (must have been YT), but I thought Andrew Divoff captured the menacing demeanour so well (superb smile for the role), that I had to check it out.
Aside from the aging visuals, some of which I still thought looked quite decent to be fair, it was an enjoyable 90 minutes that didn't outstay its welcome.

Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0156182/

More of the same, but again, enjoyable and doesn't run for too long (a little north of 90 mins).
As with the first, a bit cheesy in parts, but the cause and effect of the choices people make allow for some entertaining viewing.
Once again, plenty of creative visual effects; some work, others not so much.

Looking forward to trying out the next film in the series, though I don't believe Andrew Divoff is in any of the later ones. :/
I really enjoyed the Wishmaster series. Cheesy fun for the adults!

Mmmm, i watched Terrifier 1 and thought it was pants, so deleted 2 and 3 :(

Yea, it wasn't great, but I have a soft spot for low budget stuff :p and thought it had enough about it to give the others a go. My review of the first was

Terrifier - 5.5/10

Not great but not that bad for the horror slasher genre it is and it depicts the low budget 80's style well (whether that's intentional or not I don't know!) but it does look every cent of the $35,000 budget it was made on! :D Terrifier 2 next, and with a near 10x the budget at $250,000 I'm expecting it to be significantly better made. Terrifier 3 had a near 10x budget again at $2M

So the 2nd was definitely an improvement.

Overall I'm giving it 6/10. But it felt like a film of two halves. I would rate the first half a 7/10 but the second half a 5/10. I loved the beginning.

Watched Vacation (2015) last night. Usually the type of film I would do anything to avoid however saw an edited reel on instagram of all of the younger brothers abusive lines to his sibling which I really liked so gave it a go, surprisingly enjoyed it and had some genuine funny moments. Worth a watch for something light hearted and silly.

I really liked this and have seen it a couple of times. I think it wasn't that well reviewed at the time because 'Argh remake!' but very entertaining. The Korean car bit was brilliant imo :D

It’s an Albanian car with Korean sat nav

Watched The Killers Game, the basic story is nothing you haven't seen before (hitman wants to retire and loads of other hitmen are sent to kill him) but there are a few differences and Dave Bautista is always watchable.
6.5/10

Black Bag - Spy drama starring Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as a married couple who both work for the Secret Service. Fassbender is then asked to spy on his own wife who is suspected of being a double agent. 7/10

In the lost lands - Batista and Jovovich as a witch and hunter crossing dangerous lands on a quest to help a queen. Awful, feel asleep a few times - 3/10

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025)

Not that the first film is particularly great, but this one is longer and more drawn out. The supporting cast is worse, there are fewer actions sequences and the whole thing feels very contrived to incorporate an America law enforcement officer in a European diamond robbery.

Apparently it's based in part on the 2003 Antwerp diamond heist. I think I got more out of its Wikipedia page than the actual film. How they're going to get people to go and watch, potentially, another three sequels is a bit of a mystery.

3/10
