Once this format settles down and makes players more affordable ... what DVD films will you replace with HD ones?

What films do you most want to see on HD, assuming the transfer is worthwhile over normal DVD content?

For me it has to be The Deer Hunter, watched this the other night on my old R1 DVD and some moments grabbed me like never before, namely the beautiful photography in the mountains when they did the hunting scene before Vietnam ... those mountains and snow topped tree shots just have to look more breathtaking in HD on a big screen.

I guess Road Movies like Thelma & Louise that take in great scenery as they go will be good HD DVD transfers as well.

What do ya think?

To be honest I've looked at HD-DVD and it really doesn't appeal to me. It's not the foramt but the content that's available for it. Although I was an early adopter of the DVD format I won't be buying into HD-DVD or BluRay for a few years until the studios start releasing the more interesting films for the format. My favourite films only came out on DVD this year (Point Blank and Pat Garett and Billy the Kid) and I'm still more than happy with those. For the time being I won't be taking another look at the HD formats until they have finished releasing all their usual pap like Will Smith movies, The Perfect Storm and all that kind of guff.

LOL ... have to agree with you though :)
