What firewall with avast?

You don't need outbound filtering except if you are particularly anal about legitimate software phoning home. Malware will just bypass outbound filtering.

So my point stands. :)

Not really. Not all malware will "just bypass outbound filtering". True it can hijack other apps, but both Comodo and Sunbelt can protect against this (although they are not "fun" ;) @ dano).

Install a firewall if you think you need one. Win7 firewall + router is enough for me. It isn't that hard to avoid infection, it just requires a little common sense and experience.

I splashed out and brought Avast Internet security a few months ago (includes Firewall) but as everyone else is saying windows firewall should be enough, you're probably behind a router as well which does its own job at protecting your machine.

I found the windows firewall was too complicated. I only managed to set up an inbound rule for local traffic because i'd done it so many times before.

I like comodo's firewall. The rules are p*** easy to set up, and if your still struggling, the help docs are a breeze also.

comodo's firewall is good I use that on my xp laptop.

on my windows 7 machine I use its default one, both are behind a NAT router and I've never had any problems. that said I never had any problems with the xp's own firewall
so basically its down to your own personal preference.
