Shogun Total War battles at night are pure eye-candy, DCS-A10 is another one for the list that can look pretty stunning.

I have played games from the very early days of space invaders/defender and I can't believe you feel under whelmed with the games you mentioned. Some of the games that people have pointed you to look amazing. Are you sure you are not just bored of gaming?

There are times when Skyrim modded can look real. Obviously, it's more than just visuals that make it not realistic - animations etc degrade the realism, making graphics looks worse than they are.

Some screens I've taken of skyrim in woodland look almost like photos.
