i have done some searching on google and there seems to be a lot of conflicting results in what games are actually optimized for quad cores. the main game that keeps popping up as the best performance gains with a quad core is F.E.A.R.
just wondering if there was a list (or if we cant start one) that says which will have a noticable gain over a single or dual core cpu.
the only one off the top of my head i think i heard was pretty good was GTA IV, might be wrong though.

There aren't many games that fully maximise the potential of 4+ threads.

COD2 IIRC can use extra cores for around 30% performance increase tho its not really making much use of the extra cores.

COD4 and Modern Warefare 2 run a bit smoother on 4 cores - on (faster) multi GPU setups it seems to increase fps as well... but mainly it just helps to keep things smooth in areas with lots going on.

Batman AA uses all 4 cores but to varied results - depending mostly on the PhysX settings/drivers.

ETQW can use 2+ cores to make things a bit smoother and increase FPS by around 30%.

Oblivion and I assume Fallout can use the extra threads for physics, AI, etc. which helps to keep things smooth.

Some source games can - left 4 dead certainly runs a bit smoother on a quad core on many setups - but its a bit prone to bugs when running multi threaded.

Not a lot really, but quads come into there own with applications like photoshop, video editing and extaction etc. The real question is what disadvantages are there of a quad core for general pc use over a dual core to warrant not having one.

But surely you know this with a nice Q core :)

Lost Planet Extreme Colonies Edition is the only PC game I know of which uses as many cores as your CPU & GPU have up to a maximum of 8. Resident Evil5 should also be the same as both use Capcom's MT Framework game engine.

GTA4 also uses Quadcore/Core i7 as well for noticeable FPS increases.

lol must admit i didnt really notice any gains from the E5200 to Q8300 in gaming but yeah in video stuff it was. and now the i7 setup i have is even better :) but not got round to installing any games yet on it.

GTA4 isnt optimized for quad core, its just not optimized for dual cores. I think all of those capcom pc ports are so resi 5, lost planet, sf4 e.t.c

does this not indicate it would work better on a quad core?
