What GREAT bands do you dislike?

The Beach Boys taught the pop world how to harmonise properly and they had some cracking tunes.
So did Queen and the Beatles, cracking tunes that is. Yet they've been mentioned several times. I really can't see people not mentioning the Beach Boys because they harmonised well, surely all it takes to get mentioned in this thread is that we don't like a supposedly great band for whatever reason. Aren't people just going to say, "I don't like blah" for whatever reason, without having to justify it in musical/lyrical terms? I mean didn't someone say he hated Radio Ga Ga because he heard it all the time? So Queen get mentioned because some radio station plays one song of theirs all the time, something out of their (creative) control, yet the Beach Boys aren't mentioned because they taught the world how to harmonise? I'm just stunned that the Beach Boys escape being named in this. I'm not saying they should be but considering some of the other bands in this thread that I would have previously considered fairly well respected I can't understand how not even one person can't stand them.

I suppose the 'greatness' quality being attached to some bands is a bit weird in my view. What are we thinking 'great bands" mean? Bands who are always popular with everyone? Bands with excellent music all the time? Bands who are consistently popular over a long period of time? Now I accept U2 might not pass the first two, but they've been going since 1976, according to Wikipedia that is. So that is 30 years. The Beatles were together really only for 10 years so surely 30 years for U2 makes them a great band for sticking together and still being musically popular and relevant?

I'm not disagreeing with your justifications over the Beach Boys, I just doubt that everybody will apply your music thinking to this. The number of legendary bands you've seen "before they were famous" makes me bow down to your knowledge and interest of music. We can't expect everyone to be able to describe and justify bands presence in this thread as perhaps you can.

Led Zep won't be in here because every song Led Zep did was different.
No-one had better not mention Led Zep now that I've introduced them into this thread.

Basically, from what I can see and from my own list, that the majority of bands listed are those that have been shoved down our throats for years. The Beach Boys haven't been shoved down our throats and a tune might get played now and then on Radio 2 so they haven't really had an impact either way on anybody here.
Most of the other bands have mega fans on a near stalking level but I must admit in all my years I've never come across one person who is besotted with The Beach Boys. They're just an OK band.
Looking down the list I would say that all bands have t-shirts that fans wear but I've never seen anybody wearing a Beach Boys t-shirt (or Carpenters). I own 3x Ramones t-shirts and they have got one mention but I understand why and even though they are repetitive I know every note and beat of their music.
So the thread title should really read -
Bands that have been shoved down our throats over the years but you dislike.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Cliff Richard and the Drifters (orig name) or Cliff Richard and the Shadows.

You should keep that list updated. It'll be fun to see the overall numbers for each band in a weeks time. lol.

Suprised by how many votes Muse got. Suprised Coldplay didnt get more. Not sure how Morrissey or Mariah Carrey got in a bands thread...? Or BEP for that matter.
Good to see no-ones voted for Snow Patrol. :D
I agree with Coldplay.

No one's voted Snow Patrol because they are light years away from even being considered "great" in the sense in which people classify U2 or The Stone Roses great.

I suppose that is the answer. A lot of the great bands named in this thread have been forced down our throats and our ears. I'd agree that the Beach Boys are one of the great bands that aren't so obvious.

Arctic Monkeys, wish they would just disappear off the face of the earth.

Getting fed up of the red hot chilli peppers too.

I can agree on the dislike of the Arctic Monkeys (or more accurately in my case the apathy I feel towards them) but great? Not in their wildest dreams at present, they may be at some point in the future worthy of being called great but hopefully they will have disappeared long before that point is ever reached.

well i totally dislike oasis but i dont think they are a great band so will have to think of another one :p

never been an iron maiden or metallica fan but dont dislike them.
erm cant think of a great band that i dislike

There is a band out there who are revered as gods by their fans. I have tried sooooo hard to like them but I can't stand how the singer emphasizes his words and their song lyric structure is terrible.

In other words, my most disliked band is................

The Manic Street Preachers

The Smiths and Morrissey!

While i dont think they are rubbish. I do hate the people that seem to follow them and those studenty type bands from the late 80's and early ninties.

Stone Roses would be one I would pick if I could line them up at a firing squad, just hate it and I hated the whole 'if you dont like the Roses and all that Mancunion crap then you suck'. Ian Brown the most talented musician in the 90's lol gimme a break.

How could I ever forget JAMIROQUAI.

Bloody awful.
Do you not like Jamiroquai, or do you not like JayK?
As a lot of people cant differentiate between the two.
I personally think JayK is a pratt, but the music (apart from the Dynamite album), is quite good.

Status Quo
Prince (why do people think he's a musical genius ?)
Jamiroquai
Michael Jackson
U2( post the Joshua Tree)
Oasis (post Definately Maybe)

Thats because you must have Signal Radio on and they play it every 10 minutes along with Always by Bon Jovi.
I had the frequency of 102.6 erased from my works radio.

Ahh, youre lucky! The place i used to work it was the only radio station we could get (crappy radio and in a valley). Not only that, i worked during the hours of "Big John's Love Hour" - or whatever his name is.

Nightmare.

As for the question, i'd have to say;

U2
Metallica
and controversially, The Foo Fighters (yawn).

:)

Oasis - (apart from Champagne Supernova) sorry Gallaghers...Manchester has produced great music but your attitude just puts me right off...also sound too much like The Beatles half the time...they even quote them

U2 - (only one or two songs are decent) just don't find them appealing, plus Bono does grate me sometimes  I've always felt I cannot say I dislike them because everyone else seems to like them (apart from here :D )

Can't believe Morrissey and The Smiths have appeared here...I've only just discovered their genius... :)
