This isn't a new thing I appreciate, but drinking a bottle of Grolsch, the posh one with the swing top cap, and it's rubbish.

I remember Grolsch being really good, as well as others.

Seems at some point, the lager you get in this country changed. It stopped being the actual product, and ended up as some fake mass produced ********, under licence from the original brand?

If you look at the cans/bottles seem to be brewed in about 1 of 5 locations in the UK, and is basically the same thing with a different label.

Admittedly this was about 15 years ago, but when I lived in London the local off licenses would sell the actual stuff, probably because they were importing it in the back of vans from France maybe, but completely different stuff and so much better.

Last time I had Grolsch in these posh bottles it was the original lager, seems even this is now the mass produced ****.

Can you still buy the original product in the country anymore?

That's bizarre, I have literally just opened a swing top bottle of Grolsch. I haven't been drinking much lately and fancied a bottle when I went past it in the supermarket. I agree with you though, I noticed when I got home that it is also only 4%, I'm sure it was higher previously?

Used to be 5% I'm sure.

Grolsch used to be my all-time favourite beer. The 5% one was amazing.

Now you can only get the 4% pils in shops which is horrid. It's such a shame. I really miss it, but I get the feeling it's never coming back.

Yea, I remember the proper Grolsch, you popped the cap and you'd get that aroma from it, I'm guessing the hops, really nice fresh smell.

Now you pop the cap it smells like a Northampton canal.

It just bugs me, I know there are alternatives out there, but the "bog standard" lagers were not bad, even wife beater as it used to be known, and you can't even call it that anymore, had a really nice flavour.

Now it's horrible.

@BUDFORCE and @Martynt74 you can get the 5% variety on Amazon:

Currently £29 for 12, which works out at just under £2.50 per 450ml bottle.

EDIT: ignore, me, just read the reviews, this is actually the 4% advertised as the 5%

I'd be a bit wary given one of the questions on Amazon:

Q:Why does the ad say 5 percent and the info 4 per cent?

Answer this question

A: The producers of Grolsch a few years ago changed the Abv from 5 % to 4 % as as this affected the resale price of their product due to UK duty increases, however you can ask Amazon to correct their listing, this is the same for the cans of grolsch
