Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

What happened to this part of the forum?

I honestly think people now find debating offensive. I don't get it, this is a discussion forum, if we were agreeing about everything then it wouldn't be a discussion would it?

I think the real problem is the misinformation going around, and considering this place really did used to be a source of information, it highlights that point, there's too many trolls interested in making things up and baiting people.

+1

It's a shame, as this used to be one of the best sections of the forum for info and content. All the decent posters seem to have moved to places more civilised, of late this forum has been host to many slagging matches and petty arguments over graphics card manufacturers. Sigh. Let's hope things pick up.

If people see something interesting happening in the news, make a thread here and we'll discuss it like adults. The mods put out a warning not so long ago, I hope they're still vigilant here. That includes blatant misinformation too I hope, not just personal attacks.

I just think that too many mistruths are spouted willy nilly with no evidence to back it up.

The key to hardware discussion is the facts.

I have not posted in GFX for a while and moved away from CPU's as one person was ruining it with the AMD pimping and budget ethical claptrap... That person has now found his way in here and is doing the same. His post was deleted thank goodness.

People should just stick to the facts and not defend their own hardware just because they own it.

The 6870 CF v 470 Sli thread is a perfect example...so many feeling the need to defend the 470's when in essence they offered no if very little gains.

Only in some cases does this apply but wording and style of address play a part as well. Due to the nature of communicating through the web it's unsurprising that things get taken the wrong way on occasion. Someone reacts and backwards and forwards it goes, ultimately resulting in no real winner or loser, just a conflict of egos at times. Providing it doesn't descend into insults I don't see a real problem with a bare knuckled debate on a subject, if two members wish to engage in some fierce debate then that's up to them. I doubt it's much different which ever forum you take a look at.

Subtle character assassinations aside, I agree with this statement. I'm tired of seeing 'spec me' threads filled with one-line answers that are simply suggesting the product which someone themselves owns. I posted back in 2008 about which mouse I should choose and got some great, informed responses. Two years later I ask the same question and get 10's of posts just saying MX518 with no explanation.

More on graphics, there's no reason to align oneself with any company or card in particular. We're all out as consumers to get the best products for the money, and everyone's needs are unique, so bear that in mind.

All is not lost however, there are still some very informative posters about and I can only urge them to stick around for the benefit of the community.

What has happened here has happened across the forum. I used to be a regular and frequent poster here but the posturing show off types have put me right off. I hardly recognise this as the same forum from a few years ago.

I'm going to mostly agree with Kylew (which is a rarity), particularly about the thread linked in the OP, which is actually quite decent. If that had been posted a year or two ago it would have resulted in a pure flamefest.

I would even go as far to say that the past couple of months have been the best they've been for a long time, as for having a major release from both AMD and NVIDIA at near enough the same time we've not even had to warn everyone about their behaviour which we've pretty much had to do everytime a new release has happened.

@ jokester

can we not have a sub section
AMD and Nvidia
will keep the fanboys in there respective rooms
