I indulged in a bit of casual "speed" clocking last night.. Basically I cranked the vcore on my x2 3800 up to 1.42, sorted the ht and cpu multis, dropped the memory divider and upped the fsb to 250.

This chip has done 3ghz in a shuttle so I know it can take it..

Anyway, it boots into windows fine, temps ok etc.. so I start to push it with clockgen.. Generally I find this a quick way of finding limits.. set it to where I know will be stable then clockgen it until it crashes/freezes and then try getting mem and core volts to stabilise that clock.

Anyway, this time it died at 2.75ghz which seemed about right, like I said its been further with a worse mobo/ram/psu collection.

I rebooted and got no video so I figured a cmos clear would do it, cleared it.. nothing.. took the battery out and left it out for 10.. nothing.. left the battery out overnight... nothing.. tried another gfx card.. nothing.

I can hear it booting, I can hear it say "cpu fan fail" as I have the hsf plugged into a fan controller, i press enter and canhear it grinding away as it boots, I can then hear the windows "tune" when it goes into windows.. just with nothing on the screen.

Any ideas?

Have you tried 2nd pci-e slot? If that fails then pci gfx card in and check bios is set correct for your gfx card. Weird though if you have cleared cmos

yeah, checked the 2nd slot with both my 7900gtx and my spare x300. Can't do anything with the bios because I can't see anything on the screen

Do you have a pci card gfx that you could use? - just to check bios as could be corrupted or more likely board has had it. Really clutching at straws though.

Its a possibility, if you look in the cpu section there is a virus that attacks amd cpus. Not sure on the symptoms but i wouldnt rule anything out.

Plus you should be pleased im helping take the heat off your mate who is shamelessly promoting your 'business' in case central. ;)

Dunno whats wrong with him lol. guessing the same reason why he's been banned from ocuk under about 10 diff usernames before lol.

I think your mobo is totally broken Matt. Have you tried a normal PCI graphics card though? Not PCI-E. EDIT: I see thats already been mentioned

Might be the PCI-E lanes that are somehow broken.
