What have you done to your car today?

Last price is a great phrase - it allows you to immediately identify the type of person on the other end of the phone and quickly invent a reason why you’re not selling the car.

Inb4 that’s racist meme :p

I like “what’s your best price” - my best price is twice the amount that I’ve got it advertised for. But we both know that’s unrealistic, and so I guess the price you can see on the advert is as good as I’m going to get.

Idiots.

Replaced the crank position sensor on the 5 series yesterday. The car started to take longer to restart when hot last week and cut out on me a couple of days ago. Took it for a drive after and seemed to be OK but a bit early to say for sure if it is fixed.

It has also developed a clicking sound from the rear passenger side wheel, no stones in the treads or anything, suspecting a CV joint possibly.

The ST has an oil leak too which I need to look into also. Bloody cars are a pain in the arse!

Had my car serviced and MOT'd by Ford yesterday. Rear trailing arm bushes needed changing, which wasn't cheap, and to add insult to injury they washed the car, despite me asking them twice not to, *and* putting a note on the dashboard. Predictably, it's now covered in fine scratches and swirls. Sigh. I guess I know what I'm doing on Saturday.

Not worth kicking up a fuss over? if i had gone to that effort and they still ignored me id be livid.
Yeah, I'm going to get in touch and see what they say. Not that they'll probably understand or care, since literally every other member of the public would probably see it as a benefit!

It wasn't 100% swirl-free beforehand anyway, since it's overdue a 'session'. But it now looks worse, I'm sure.

My car is already really swirly but I still never let other people wash it. Made the mistake of getting the dirty water brigade in a supermarket car park to clean my Polo a few years ago. The scratches!!

Mines going to BMW soon for a major service, each dealer I’ve enquirers about pricing has said they’ll wash & vacuum it to which I’ve said vacuum it by all means but don’t wash it, each one has then stated it’s no cheaper if they don’t wash it, not getting the point that I don’t want it scratched / swirl marks.

I made this point to the very helpful service guy at Stratstone Derby to which he replied that their cars were all valeted on site to a high standard and seemed puzzled when I said “I guess that’s why the brand new M5 demonstrator is covered in swirl marks” - it was - judging by the state of swirling of both new and used cars I’ve seen - and not just at BMW dealers - I assume joe public doesn’t care and just likes the “free” wash.

This is the thing, most people are like "oh great, means I don't have to do it myself!", which is why they probably think "wtf" when people like us make the request. But I don't care.

The last few times I've had my car serviced there, they've duly followed my instructions. This time despite asking on two occasions (including, at the time of booking, the person on the phone saying "ok no problem, we'll take a bit off the price for that then", without me asking), and putting a note on the dash, they went ahead and did it anyway.

I left a message at the dealer (with the very apologetic service advisor who answered the phone) and I can expect a call back from the manager next week. Will see what they say. I just want them to know that I'm somewhat disappointed.

I've seen the car washing "area" at the back of the car park. There's nothing high standard about it.
