What have you done to your car today?

Melt wires. Start fires. Blow injectors.

Oh. I’ll swap it back to a 10amp. Bit strange he’d a higher amperage in and not just the same..he did mention because the injectors were larger they maybe drawing more current?

I’m not an expert in mechanics so rather confused why it blew in the first place.

Only way injectors would be pulling more current is if you've fitted a low resistance injector in place of what should be high resistance types

So 6 months ago I got a minor advisory and now thinking of getting this fix in the next few months before winter comes/next MOT. How much do this normally cost?

Car is Volvo C30 T5.

Advisory notice item(s)
  • Nearside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement rear bush (2.4.G.2)

Both run same resistance at 12ohm. So can’t see it being that.

EDIT: sorry I’m mistaken. He put a 10amp in because it was a 15 :/

Probably be the same as what I just had done, control arms. I'll upload a picture of mine later but it was a right mess.

These P1 platform cars really get through suspension components. Makes a world of difference to the handling once sorted though.

Sorry how much for both fronts? £700 ?! I'll be taking it to a Volvo specialist, not dealer.

At discounted rates from my uncle they were £82 per side but I used Skandix as they were slightly cheaper still.

P/N 31277464 for left side and 31277465 for the right.

It's not too much of a job to fit. I got quoted £20 per side at his rates but can't be more than half an hour ish per side.

It's the engine mounts that stuffed me over. They're stupidly expensive for the 5 pots. I upgraded the torque mount with a pumaspeed one though which has made a huge difference.

The £700 I paid today was for all of the work in my previous post. Ended up being quite a bit, just all adds up.

Ah, that's alright then.

I hope I don't have to replace the engine mount in mine anytime soon!

Picked the car up.

It's had a solid flywheel and new LUK clutch fitted. Along with finding a cracked spark plug... New gearbox oil, went for some thicker stuff.

Car drives soo much better. The old dual mass flywheel was completely dead

Fitted an arm rest. Can't be without one and this was a bargain. Just had to switch over the plaque and cigarette socket.

Time for a new crankshaft too it seems! That's insane, you may have been literally miles from a dead engine

*Edit* just seen crank fine, phew!

Yeah thankfully the crank was fine. The guy said that when he removed and saw that first delaminated bearing he thought he was going to have to call me and tell me the crank was dead. Although there had been a very very small amount of polishing, there was no grinding or marks on the crank and he measured and remeasured the crank at all the required points and found it still within spec and the crank journals still completely round (no ovalling). Lucky as hell!

They had another car in there which had spun a bearing and put a rod through the block. Bill for a second hand engine sourced, fitted with new bearings and then fitted to the car was between £8000-10000. Brand new engines are around £20000 plus fitting. For £1200 (which is what it would have cost with OE bearings without the DCT pan having to be replaced also) it makes complete sense to get them done between 60-80k if you aren't aware of how the last owners have treated it.

That middle one is interesting how it’s delaminated, did the crank survive? Did it knock at all on start up ? How’s it sound /feel now?

Yeah, as above, crank survived. There was no knocking at all at any parts of the rev range, no funny noises, no codes, no nothing - that's why in one of my last posts I said that I didn't know whether he was going to remove the bearings and find them to be perfect, or find them to be destroyed as there was simply no way of knowing. It sounds and feels great now - just as it did before!

Picked it up from Abbey Motorsport yesterday, to have a throttle problem investigated. Ever since the remap, I've noticed the car could be a bit twitchy on partial throttle. Not major, but annoying when cruising, or when manoeuvring at slow speed - felt a little jerky, as if the throttle was hyper sensitive to inputs, even though I was holding my foot steady. I left it with Mark at Abbey on Wednesday so he could do some proper investigation. Turns out that it was the throttle pedal itself at fault, giving an inconsistent output. He swapped the pedal with the one from his own car, and the problem is resolved.

I'm chuffed to bits, it was a little thing that's been niggling me since I had the car done and it's meant I've not enjoyed it at much as I should - but the car now drives much more smoothly and there's none of the twitchyness anymore. A big thank you to Mark and the guys at Abbey Motorsport, great service yet again :)
