What have you done to your car today?

It was, cheers for that guys. Last time I tried to change a tyre (different car) the nuts were on so tight I had no chance getting the wheel off, ended up getting ripped-off at Kwik-Fit instead.

Here's hoping this is a bit more successful.

Volvo Dealer wanted £850 for OEM brake disc and pads
Volvo specialist wants £415 for Brembo disc and pads

Eh...no brainer! £415 is still quite expensive but £850 you are just not getting my money.

You can get front Brembo brake pads and discs from EuroCarParts for just over £100, why are they going to charge you that much? Is it front and rear?

Mine only cost £280 for front and rear discs and pads!

I'm just getting quotes atm. I'm aware of the prices on ECP.

If it's all 4 it'll be more like £250 for decent discs and pads, then labour and vat - £400+ doesn't sound far off

Agree if it's only the fronts or rears tho

All 4 and courtesy car for the day from the specialist.

Or the dealer can pick up and drop it off for £6, it's a 80mile round trip. Granted it's on my petrol but £6? They still need to get here and then get home, might as well offer the service for free!

Not forgetting a C30 T5 is a car weighing neigh on 1500kg with a reasonable amount of power meaning it'll have a reasonably good braking setup

Not what I'd expect from a main dealer tbh, even Skoda have dropped off (two different) cars to me at a cost of zero - it's only in for a service and little bit of air con work

I have 4 piston brembo's and my Renault specialist only charges £350 :p

For all corners, it's not a bad price though if it also includes a courtesy car.

Well, I thought if it cost a fee, it would be more than £6, what really is the point of £6?

I just don't think it's appropriate to be charged anything for either a courtesy car or pick up / drop off of your own by a main dealer (perhaps wrongly). Attempts to charge for insurance annoy me just as much

Perhaps if it was in for a £30 MOT, but not hundreds of pounds worth of work. They can either do it or they can't

I know everyone goes on about dealers being stealers but I've always found dealers to be reasonable for servicing... until we get onto the subject of brakes. The money dealers charge to supply and fit discs and pads is astronomical!

I really don't get it either. The guy that I had do my last set is an ex BMW master tech. I stood and watched him do it and there is literally nothing special. It's a quick, easy job that requires no special tools.

All this brake talk is reminding me that I need to sort out my front discs*again. That's a price I'm not looking forward to seeing again :(

MOT, oil change, front discs, front left xenon and what ever the hell is making that high pitch*noise on start up all need sorting*in the next month or so. Plus insurance is due then as well. Expensive month coming up.

Actually dealer's quote on the service is £340 and the specialist is £357 (including MOT). The only snag is the 80 mile round trip and I hasten to let someone drive my car. It's not a new car anymore and I'm the 3rd owner and the chain of dealer service history was broken when Land Rover serviced it last year.

I'm thinking about just go to the specialist, £750 all in, drop it off before work and pick it up after work. Job done.

The servicing at Toyota was really cheap, £120 with courtesy car.
