What have you done to your car today?

I'm taking mine to EFI Parts, even though RST is closer. EFI is £280 and they have just as good of a rep for Renault mapping.

EFI are fantastic. I've been there for a rolling road run. And they've mapped my mates mk3 Astra gsi, really friendly and knowledgeable guys.

Begun cluster surgery

As I'm fitting proper oil temperature and pressure sensors to feed into my ECU I can display the data on my OLED data display and replace the stock dummy oil pressure gauge. Stock gauge face mounting screws are the right spacing on the centers but about 20mm higher than I need them

FN, I have a spare cluster which I don't need, let me know if it would do you any good.

Wish I'd have known that a few days ago....No real loss, paid less than £20 for one to use as a test piece. Just need to find something to make a bezel to hide the PCB for the OLED now

Pop and I learned things about his Land Rover this weekend.

1) Turns out that the sidelights aren't connected to a fuse - they get power direct from the battery, same as the ignition and starter circuit. Not exactly tallying with the published wiring diagram, but hey ho.
2) The (not factory AFAIK) screenwash pump is connected to the second of the two (!) fuses that the car's electrical system has. We found this out when the pump blew the aforementioned fuse - when we re-loomed the headlights we connected the new loom to that fuse to power it, and yesterday had found ourselves with no screenwash pump and no headlights...two things that one might not necessarily immediately realise are linked :D
3) The damned silly twin-barrel Weber carb that has been hosing fuel into the engine has had a very good reason for doing so - bloody choke has been out of adjustment and sticking on. I'm not saying that the fuel economy is going to dramatically improve, but it might at least get out of single figures now...

Done an oil & filter changed on my Audi at the weekend with genuine parts from TPS, £27, bargain! Also booked in at DervTech for a remap next month.

Then onto another car, about a month ago I posted a Micra I'd bought cheap with a presumed knackered engine with no compression. Yesterday finally got around to taking the engine out and seeing what was wrong with it.

It was a bit of a squeeze out.

And whipped the head off to find the possible cause :D :D

God knows how it happened. Timing chain was all good, it still turned over nicely too. I think the old couple that owned it had an accident with 2nd gear at 70mph or something like that :D Either way the engine is scrap. Low mileage replacements are dirt cheap to pick up though.

Forgot how much trouble it was to do audio stuff on the FN2 shape civic! Lots of dismantling required...

On my car...Eibach rear anti-roll bar fitted with new droplinks, also refitted the exhaust (place that fitted it did it up tight but the flanges weren't aligned properly, and they'd left exhaust paste oozing everywhere....why is it so hard to find somewhere that does these things properly?)

My local Honda having a giggle.
I have a HKS RSK Air Intake and asked for a quote on a full service, got a ridiculous price back and mentioned I wouldn't need the air filter as I have an aftermarket intake..
"Oh we wouldn't be able to stamp your service book in that case then"

Odd. They used to be really good for me. £40 for an oil service if I provide the oil, now they want £180 with me supplying oil.

Think I'll just get them to check valve clearances and chain guide marks and do the rest myself.

remote fob not working today after work, so i changed the battery
still doesn't work, any ideas? Focus 2009

also 2 brand new Dunlop BluResponse tyres on the front of my car

Been having a go at my wheels for last few weeks - A lot of hard graft sanding and grinding the damage off - then sanding it all down.

All sanded and undercoated

Just the lacquer to go on soon and two wheels done - not the blue one - that was trial run on paint spray gun and considering how crap that wheel was it's turned out ok.

Next two tomorrow.

They are looking good! I started a set of track wheels last night, what a mistake lol...

3 hours later I've nearly sanded one alloy face down, as they are for track I can't be bothered to do the barrel (just want to remove the curbing tbh).

Today, my fingers are aching from all the sanding...

That's not cheap at all. Specialist it is then.

I used a multi tool with sander attachment and 240 grit pad for most - Green scouring pad for rest - As you say finger killing.

In 3 hours I'd sanded down, prepped and fully painted 4 wheels. What on earth are you doing?

Get a wire wheel/cup for your angle grinder/drill and a rotary tool with a flappy sanding disc - the latter will sort out any curb rashes/curbing and the former will blitz the surfaces and take most of the old paint/rust/whatever off.

I used just sandpaper too.... The latter comment doesn't make things *that* much quicker, just gives a better finish and saves your fingers.
