What have you done to your car today?

They told me that it was going down as a "Police Accident" (Polacc in their lingo), but didn't really explain any further than that, just told me to contact insurance and tell them that, which I did, but they didn't seem interested in it, saying the police probably wouldn't help anyway with regards to a claim.

A police accident is just one where a police car/driver may have been involved with (and in todays society, if a police officer seems to look in the general direction as a car accident occurs they treat it as a polacc because "omg transparency!!11!!". It doesn't mean that the police are responsible for the accident or that their insurance would pay out. What you can do is call 101 and ask for a reference number for the pursuit, in which your details should be listed. You may even try and ask about who the driver was and if they had insurance, but I expect you'll be incorrectly given a bunch of crap about "data protection" by a calltaker who doesn't really know what the DPA is about but errs on the side of extreme caution.

Insurance told me that basically, the person whose car was stolen's insurance would tell mine to sod off as they would be considered a victim of crime too

Yeah I think that's the way it works - IIRC you can't claim against the driver of the other car because it was out of his control. I imagine it will come from the big pot all insurers put into to insure motorists against people hitting them with no insurance.

and that the only chance I have of not having it claimed on my insurance would be if the police catch the bloke, and I think she said claim off his (if he has any ?).

Yeah good luck with that. People who steal cars then get into a pursuit with the police generally aren't the ones that have insurance on any vehicle. Ever.

Either way I think I'm not going to get very far with this.

It'll just be treated the same as if someone random side swiped your car and didn't stop/leave a note.

I could start a side business with that to pay for what ever amount of money this is going to cost, so would be quite a useful addition

I await the comedy they'll come back with. :p

"Oh, er, yeah your glove box handle is a little bit sticky, so we've quoted you for a full interior replacement, a respray, a full engine rebuild and replacement of the entire suspension just in case...that comes to.....£25000, but I've had a word with head office and we're prepared to give a goodwill gesture of £250 towards that"

Cursed it. Needed to drive to Tesco, so in i got, tried to drive off, handbrake had stuck on. Brilliant. Drove around car park to try and get it to unstick, but no joy. Fortunately a friend was coming with me who also had his keys with him so no huge problems.

I'm trying so hard to justify keeping this car rather than upgrading, but it's just annoying me at the moment.:mad::mad:

Replaced the old EBC yellowstuff pads today with some Brembo pads. Moderate amount of wear on the EBC's considering they've been fitted since 2010. (did ~ 45 mins on track time) Will be testing it out tomorrow to see if it's made any appreciable difference to the cold performance. I've got some HEL braided lines waiting to go on too.

I also took the opportunity to take the forge dump valve to bits and clean and re-lube the seals since I now have the appropriate castrol red rubber grease.

Oh I am, incredibly so.

Already machine polished most of it out, but there are a couple of deep(er) scratches that need some colour, which is annoying enough, but Audi don't even have a touch up kit for my colour yet as it's still too new :(

The colour is too new? It's a colour made up of a number of different shades, how can audi or anyone else not mix them up. Probably get a primary school kid to mix it together for you if you ask nicely.

Airbag light on for months. £7 on a new airbag ECU and 20 mins and all sorted. Better than the £400 odd BMW wanted. E39 523i.

Are you honestly surprised that Ebay and 20 minutes of your time was a better option than a main dealer for an electrical fault on a 20 year old car?!

I'm stunned you even asked BMW for a quote :D

Well, no. Not in the slightest. But as the car cost me £400 to buy 18 months ago spending any more than a few quid would render the car scrap!

Thats not the right way to look at used car ownership, as I've been told many times and am finally beginning to understand! £7 vs £400 on a "£400 car" is definitely better!! :D

As good as it has been for a first car, £400 cars are never going to be great. If anything major goes then it isn't worth the hassle of trying to fix it. Then again finding another E39 for £400 might be more difficult than last time. Bought the car from a guy the next road over!

Better the devil you know. If your £400 one throws up a £400 bill which you can't get around, fixing it might still be a good option. An £800 one on the used market would be an unknown beast and might be worse!

Funnily enough I know someone who bought an E39 for around £400 (a 520i), he has spent at least £1000 on it making little adjustments and sorting things out, and doesn't plan on getting rid. :)

This is true. But I'm hoping nothing goes wrong! The gearbox has a habit of going into limp home mode when switching from D into R, and a power cycle fixes that, but other than that she is a solid car.

Had a new tyre fitted following on from the above.

Fitter dented/scratched my wheel. Fuming. Its only a small mark but they were perfect. Knew something was up when it took him 20 mins to remove my old tyre!

Said he will have to get the wheel sent away to get it refurbished. Don't really want the whole thing refurbished and end up with a poor job and mismtached colour. And the inconvenience of it all.

I'll ask ford to repair it and send them the bill. That's reasonable isnt it?
Its a big chain so they should be used to this sort of thing.

If I was you I would not let ford repair your wheel having myself spent today rectifying two fiesta st bumper scuffs done by an inhouse smart repairer at one of our dealer accounts. I am an automotive refinisher and ATA cosmetic technician. Most in house smart repairer will lash your wheel and run. This is what gives independent and skilled technicians a bad name.

I noticed from your signature you live in Kent. Might I recommend you sending your wheel to

http://www.lepsons.com/

and asking Ford to pay the repair. Every bodyshop and main dealer and anyone who has any real brains in the trade usually uses these people.

Now I am not saying there aren't perfectly good bodyshops and smart repairers and painters who could easily rectify your wheel to a brilliant standard. I do work in a bodyshop and do visit dealers and offer mobile smart repair. But what I am saying is that these people are the best in the business in repairing wheels and there status among prestige brands and dealers, manufacturer owned companies reflects this.

Crashed it. Well, someone crashed into me queuing in traffic on the M4 last night. Looks to only need some paint, surprising as the front of his Omega was pretty smashed up.

It's being picked up next Friday and a courtesy car being dropped off at the same time. Tesco, who I'm insured with, have been brilliant so far.

Nah, he should just walk to work and the shops while his car gets repaired due to an accident which was no fault of his own

Why is it taking the ****?

The bumper needs spraying and judging from the noise, there'll be clips and all sorts to replace underneath.

Maybe he should lend me his car and pay me my hourly rate while I'm not in work due to having to arrange getting mine sorted?
