What have you done to your car today?

Ever actually driven an e30? They feel old (as they are), not necessarily good old either

Yes, and yes they do, because they are old. I don't want one because I think it is going to be some amazing driving machine, I just want one. Always have done.

I nearly bought a 1986 316 for my first car before I realised that insurance was ridiculous for an 18 year old. I wanted one since before then, and have wanted one ever since. I feel as though maybe I never mentioned this before which is why it seems a bit odd... But I doubt any of this will come as a surprise. :D

This one did feel rather a lot less old, with aftermarket Bilstein suspension and the M50 engine though. :)

Very punchy too!

Anyway I'll leave it out of here unless I actually buy one. Which I'm sure would be preferred by all. :)

Never meet your heros. It's going to be underwhelming.

To be fair to him, the E30 is fun to drive if you like old cars however the touring isn't there when it comes to handling dynamics etc. so I really don't get why he'd even consider one if it's his hero car.
Compared to modern cars though they are pretty rubbish and IMO the MX5 is much more fun to drive than the E30 and it's much cheaper to run and maintain.
I'd have another but certainly not a cab or touring again...and not a knackered one / one with issues, so that'd be £10kish...

I don't really mind if it is a 2 door, a 4 door, or a touring. As long as it has a 2.5 6, and a manual box. Condition is the main priority, and this one was further from the mark than I was expecting, thats all. :)

Acme, stick to the MX5 for now, even if you get bored and want more power it'll be cheaper and less of a liability to modify it than buying an E30

I was err, planning on keeping it too... :o

Its not really about speed. I considered the 2.0's as well, and they would make a much better noise, but be slower than the MX5. :p

Anyway, just me being daft and jumping into things, nothing new, I'm just happy that I seem to have gained some mysterious ability to not buy something. If I bought an E30, or something similar (E21, E28, E34?) I'm reasonably confident it would be my "forever car" which always stays while other cars get chopped and changed around it. A bit like Fox's E39 if he still has it.

Change the spark plugs on the family wagon - it had more soot on the plugs than we have in our chimney!! No wonder the car was hesitating and misfiring from time to time.

Chopped up some wires behind the headunit and now have a switch to turn the backup camera on whenever I want to, should be good when towing the trailer.

That setup isn't going to cut it mate. When it comes to turbochargers it's important to use decent inconel studs, locking nuts and a multi-layer steel gasket. With that nasty gasket and basic stainless hardware you are going to be doing this job again pretty soon.

It's getting a ram horn WEPR TD04 manifold fairly soon, so its not an issue. As for the 'basic' S/S hardware, we use it on Perkins 404 & 1104 engines which run 24 hours a day with spring washers and I'm yet to see anything vibrate loose after 8 months.

Though I'd be concerned about why it sooted up the plugs so badly in the first place.

Age of car (110k miles), but also the gaps were badly set which probably didn't help. Also probably the injection system is just not as efficient as it was - but for the cost of the car to change it is probably not worth it. It works fine, it should be addressed, but it'll be okay for now.

My mrs is due to have our baby on the 9th of feb so i thought i best have a test run on putting the baby seat in and out of the car, which clips into the ISOfix base.

1 big downside to BMW electric seats, they take forever to go forwards and back. Probably be quicker to put the roof down, put baby in and roof back up. What a nobsack i would look then though...

Really do need to change it but i also dont want to be spending hardly any money as we are saving up for a bigger house.

And people wonder why I prefer saloons to coupes/convertibles :p

Unless I could have two cars I'd always have a single car with at least 4 doors.

Children don't stay as infants very long though (how old are yours?), and as a parent of two I can say in my own experience that even with ISOFIX bases I would rarely remove the seat. I know plenty of parents that have got along fine with two doors.

I know plenty of parents who have "got along fine" with only public transport. I wouldn't endorse it though ;)

I want my life to be as easy as possible, not having children/myself clambering over the car to reach the rear seats!
