Hi,

I wanted to ask if anyone can tell me what cooler is ok for a (overclocked) pentium 4 socket 478 prescott, i need a cooler that can keep it under 50 C when its under stress, as at the moment i have a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU cooler its ok for stock speeds and light overlocking but i cant increase my vcore higher becourse my cooling isnt good enough.
I need a cooler that can keep my cpu below 50 C while runnung @ 260 mhz fsb (from 200), so a 30 % oc (from 3.00ghz to 3.91ghz), and a vcore of 1.5v
My present cooler lets my cpu be 60 C when under stress (@ 1.45v vcore) so im araid to increase vcore mroe but i need to otehrwise my pc is unstable becourse of vcore voltage drop when under stress.
So whats the best cooler i can get for socket 478 my price limit is 50€ so about 30 quid?
Also is 50c possible as a p4 prescot really produces a lot of heat when overclocked much more than a64's.

Thanks in advance

Thermaltake Big Typhoon 4 in 1 Heatpipe (Socket 939/754/775/478) CPU Cooler (CL-P0114) (HS-007-TT)
Price: £21.95 (£25.79 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Thats brilliant cooler for socket 478, and should keep it to around 50c. Although 60 really isnt that bad for a 478 prescott. Especially if it is an earlier revision like one I have, @ 3.2ghz it hits 52c load using a zalman copy (PCcooler).

yes but can it take the overclock? as when my cpu isnt overlclocked its a lot cooler around 50 ish when stressed and 30ish when idle (now on oc: 40ish idle 55-60 (air temperature dependant) when under stress, will that cooler really keep my cpu 50 c max?

I would say ** oc is too much and lower it to 3.8 perhaps in order to get the cpu cooler.

For a new hsf i would suggest

Zalman CNPS9500-LED Aero Flower (Socket 939/754/478/775) CPU Cooler (HS-015-ZA)

or the

Arctic Cooling Freezer 4 CPU Cooler (Socket 478) (HS-016-AR) (think its the equivelent of the freezer 64 pro as i have)

Also use some decent thermal paste and make sure its very thin when applying it.

It is the best air cooler available for socket 478, if that wont you need water cooling

Why are you so worried about the 50c mark? nothing to say 49c will be fine and 51c will be deadly :p
