What Insurance group is a UK Turbo Impreza?

Note though that although it is in a low group (the old one), they are VERY expensive to insure. Almost twice that for me than things like 200sx's and MR2 Turbo's.

Google has failed me but Parkers says Group17....

Anyone on here work for an insurance company?

A quick answer would be appreciated, Thanks.

17 for a classic, 19 for a new shape ( not sure if the 2.5 is different )

Depends which one you are after mate.

New 2.5 STI IIRC is group 20.
An older one is group 17.

Yea its a 1999 model, exactly as I thought.

Tempcover website says "Cover is not available for vehicles in Insurance Group 18 or higher."

£702 - 23yrs old 4yrs NCB

1999 should be group 17 ( think first new shapes were 2000 ) though every insurer is free to do as they wish

The insurance on them is riduclous regardless of group. I toyed with the idea of an MY99 Turbo 2000...

£2100 to insure. Versus £1040 for the identical group similar performing 530i Sport.

£550 all mods declared. 29, 7+? NCB low car crime area.

£700 sounds OK. Theres a couple of places on Scoobynet that are very competitive and don't demand a tracker.

Yea getting insurance isnt the problem its getting temp cover to get it home.

Greenlight gave me a good quote but eCar were cheapest.

I cant be bothered to explain why I dont just take out the policy now.

The insurance on Scoobies and Evos is a black art that is for sure.
My mate and I did insurance quotes back to back for some cars a few weeks ago and they where wildly different via moneysupermarket.com
Everything Japanese import wise was nearly half the price for him with our details being near enough identical, yet UK models where half the price for me!

32, 5 years NCB, 1 SP30, BA postcode vs 31, 5 years NCB, 1 SP30, BS postcode

Both our postcode areas are banded the same according to the sticky, we just couldn't actually figure out why the quotes where like that at all.

Some places still refuse to quote at all yet I can quite happily get quotes for exotica or group 20 cars from the same places (Swiftcover)

I just had a quick look at the respective performance figures. I'm surprised the Impreza isn't quicker than it is, I'd thought its 0-60 was around 5.0 seconds for some reason. It's quick but nothing earth shattering considering it's group 20 and as you say costs a fortune to insure. I guess they are crashed and/or stolen a lot more than BMW 530i Sports are.

twisties for the win ;)

The high insurance on scoobs is actually down to two things:

1) The amount that they get wrecked and/or stolen.

2) They are Japanese. Generally, any true Japanese car, even one imported officially, will be three of four groups above a European car of similar performance. For instance, my old Mazda 323 ZXi (145bhp) was group 14. A Ford with that power would be 10 or 11 - if that. I believe it comes down to the cost of parts.

Great.... looks like my sister is driving it back for me

"Unfortunately the message you are seeing indicates that the vehicle is listed as above group 17 on our system, as we can only offer insurance for vehicles upto and including group 17 we would be unable to offer insurance on your vehicle"

Hmm I really don't think a Ford with the aforementioned Mazda's weight and power would be group 10/11. What class is the 323 in, Fiesta? Escort?

For comparison, my Vauxhall Cavalier (bigger than a 323?) has 150bhp and is group 14. I presume Vaux parts are similarly priced and abundant to Ford parts.

Yeah exactly, a Scooby would **** all over a 530 on twisties. Its a totally different car, i'm suprised you even compared them Fox

I've always liked the old Classic shape Imprezas, at least the final revision of them anyway. I see little point getting into an arguement over performance figures, it was just an example of how insurance groups are often meaningless.

I compared them becuase I liked them, despite the godawful interior.

My insurance if under £400 (37, full ncb) through Privilege.
They class my 2005(55) STI PPP as a Grp 20 car.

one question though...
If, as you state, its to get you home, please DO explain why you dont take the policy out now?
