What is a life worth?

Not sure how you can't understand that simple statement.
If your talking about murder then no, as that would wouldn't just be murder that would be mass murder. If it's 16 killed by driving without due care and attention or anything else, then no. It should be the same. But rated on risk.
So U turn on a straight low speed road. Then low punishment, U turn on a blind corner on a national speed limit, substantially higher.

Lets have risk based thought out punishments, not revenge punishments which achieve nothing.
Do you think there's any point locking someone up who made a genuine mistake? Will it make the population safer? No.
Will it detter others? No
Will it actually make the victims friends and gambles happier, unlikely after 5mints if glee and they realise it changes nothing. There's a reason emotionally involved parties should have nothing to do with making laws, or sentences.
Makes no sense.

And it depends on circumstances. But punishment should absolutely be based on crime, not on outcome. Weather that involves death or anything else.

Sounds like this vid.

Even If he was speeding pretty sure the law states that you have to account for people doing under and over the speed limit. At least that's what my lawyer told me when I had my car crash.

The victor always gets to give their side. The other party unfortunately doesn't.

Happened to me - can't remember the crash but the more I think about the less I was to blame as I just wouldn't have done those things and I know how I would have reacted.

Motorcyclists have a habit of breaking traffic laws but they do have better 'sight' than car drivers as you get taught to ride defensively and that sticks with you.

there is actually a big thing where i live with motorcyclists and just ignoring them braking the law aslong as they dont have a helmet on in Liverpool. you see fleets of them all the time doing wheelies ore going through red lights dodging oncoming traffic and police on the opposite side of the road that do nothing because if they get into a chase the motorcyclist might get injured. it doesnt matter that people are getting injured or even killed by these idiots while riding on the footpath or through red lights etc etc.

as much as killing someone is a very bad thing you cant let other people get hurt by these thugs. if they die during the chase that has possibly saved someone else from injury or death.

as far as being lenient to the police - thats something i am totally against, a police officer that commits a crime should be punished more than normal, they are the example we should all be following.

EDIT - a life is priceless. but we all know lots of really high value companies treat lives like they are expendable.

The thread isn't about police getting lenient treatment is about what a biker's life is worth, though yes I did question if it was lenient because of her job.

The officer claims to never have seen the biker until he was lying on the floor. There are a few more reports with more info on that site and a few others.

I'm a biker and posted it here because it made me wonder what protection we have with regard to being killed, there doesn't seem to be much deterrent and this kind of article doesn't send out a good message with regard to being safe on the road. I didn't post in GD because it would just turn in to the typical biker hate thread.

The fact is, regardless of what happened.

It honestly does not send out a good message at all!

Some people will always hate bikers - Personally, I love biking whether it be push or a motorcycle. Each to their own, and haters gonna hate.

i love the idea of motorbikes, i just dont like what they are good for lol. speed. the faster you go the more you get use to it. that sort of thing is addictive and i am a bus driver so i cant afford enjoy speeding lol. i was dead set on getting my license but then i thought about it.

A naked roadster for not going fast and getting addicted to speed? :p

russell, if you don't want to go fast, just get a cruiser or chopper/classic type bike.

Yep, you will be far more aware of the speed compared to any faired bike.

I was doing over 180kmh (on a private road) on a super blackbird and it felt like 60 on my Street Triple... that's insane!
