Hi there,

I've got a strip poking out of one of my front tyres  It's coming out where the tyre meets the alloy and is a thin strip, kind of like the binding tape you use on boxes. About 1cm wide, 2cm long.

I'll get a picture tomorrow as it's dark now.

Any idea what it is? I'll be getting two new front tyres anyway as they're near the marker now but I'm just curious.

Cheers :)

Yer they have rim-protectors, but I thought that this was just the protrusion of the tyre wall? This is coming from actually inside the tyre between the seal.

Anyone have any ideas what it is? Is it dangerous to drive with as I'm going over to Hull (god knows why!) on Thursday.

Cheers

P.S - Sorry for the poor picture, did it in a rush this morning :p

I know it shouldn't be there! :p It's not metal though or anything, it's just like a plastic strip poking out from INSIDE the tyre. If anything I'd guess it was the seal between tyre/alloy, the pressure is spot on though.

Really is odd

Tyre is a Goodyear NCT5 by the way (served me well actually, was put on the car by the previous owner 2.5 years ago!). Will be getting two new front tyres in a few weeks anyway.

How about go to a garage who work with tyres and see what they say?

"Hmmm yeah mate... well your problem is you've got a piece of plastic stuck in your tyre... *pulls it out*, Ok that'll be £40"

Well just go to a place that offers free checks, and ask if they will charge anything before you ask them anything, which I did when i wanted to check if there was any damage under the front of my car, they said there was just a bolt loose and didnt charge me for it to be tightened.

It's an idea, but I'd rather not waste mine or their time if it's something trivial which is why I'm asking on here first :) It seems to be fine and not affecting the tyre itself so I'm not overly worried about it, merely curious. If it started losing pressure etc then it would go straight to the garage!

As it stands I'll be replacing the tyre in a few weeks anyway so will find out then for sure. If I do have time then I'll pop into a garage but I doubt I will. I've also already done a 200mile motorway journey with it and not died :p

Sweet. If I get a blowout and die I'm blaming you lot :p

As I said they're getting changed in a few weeks anywho.

Cheers :)
