Just wondering if anyone feels the quality of the dpad these days for playing games like street fighter has really went down the crapper? Just had a try of sf2 hyper fighting on the 360 and was amazed at how badly the dpad reacted to commands (from what ive read on numerous sites theres tons of people peeved at it). The ps2 controller for streetfighter is also pretty akward when it comes to specific moves seeing as the controller is missing a FULL dpad and only has the points of them.

Just seems the old snes controller and the 6 button megadrive controller back in 1991\92 were so superior to the stuff we have these days. Even the pc has yet to produce a gamepad that plays sf2 well, theres aracde joysticks available but they cost around £80+ just for one game.

I think it's down to cost cutting on the parts and the designers spending more time and love on the sticks these days :(

I do agree in principle. But the shift over to analogue is a fantastic advance. analogue steering/acceleration in games and graduated motions aswell as roll and swing type techniques etc add a new dimension to gaming.

D-Pads are legacy devices, due to the re release of old games that represent the heratige of gaming leaves us wholly at the mercy of our own nostalgia. The truth is the shift to analogue sticks is a good one, you can get a mega drive with SF2 in good nick for about the price of a 360 game so i say stop moaning (not directed at the OP just in general).

Although what does let me down is when in games commands are issued by the use of the 8 dpad directions. The Dpad on 360 is so bad that even in this capacity it's useless.

It's that bad on the 360 that it makes me wonder why they even bothered, they may as well of just stuck 4 small buttons on it for each direction. Whilst the ps2 isnt the best, it poo's on the xbox pads.

Has anyone tried out the other pads available? The doa4 stick seems impossible to get hold of, and tbh i'd rather use a pad.

I'm not saying it's a bad pad btw, as the analouge section is excellent, perhaps a little stiff and rsi inducing though...

dpads on most consoles have been a bit dodgy as of late.. they all feel like cheap PC gamepad types.. really stiff.

Not being a big fighter fan, my gripe is with tony hawks. i used to widdle on these games on ps2 but i only managed to scrape thru on the 360 one.
