What is my mushroom?

On a serious note, what possible reason would anyone have to eat a mushroom they picked? They're not exactly expensive from the supermarket! I read about the author who ate some he picked and nearly died, he needs a kidney transplant.
 
Eat it and find out, then come back in twenty minutes.

My dad picked some while out walking (knew they wern't poisonous though) and they taste 100 times better than the shop ones i must say.

Because it tastes 10 times better and you probably get a nice trip into the woods with it as well :) Of course you wouldn't go picking mushrooms if you don't know what they look like and what they are.

This. My mum and dad have a mush room book and went out and picked some a while back. They did actually taste 100 times better than ones bought
 
It is most definitely not from any of the psilocybe families, so you won't be experiencing any fantastic moments unfortunately.

EDIT: anyway I used to eat a lot of these when I was a kid, was picking them up in local forests/fields when I used to live abroad,
