can anybody tell me why pc games sell much less compared to consoles? are there simply more console gamers than pc gamers? hell no!

microsoft recently announced that the new xbox360 live record has been broken with 2m xbox360 users online concurrently. yet steam hit 2.5m+ during the holidays and steam is just one DD service that not every pc gamer uses. I wish valve would release some sales numbers for the holiday deals.

so why dont pc games sell at least as much as console games? is it rampant piracy?

answer this question, why would you want say Call of duty world at war on all 4 platforms ?

@Duran
I was one of them '2.5m' on steam over the holidays, snapped up a right couple of bargains i did :)
But i still do 90% of my gaming on xbox 360.
Like a lot of people - big tv, couch and a console designed game, just seems more at home on ... a console ;)

aye too that I would if I was a game developer but it depends, I might be included to make the PC version special, as a gamer no way...

I asked that cos I have the PC version of WaW and the wii version and tbh the wii version sucks, I may be included to say the same about the 360 and PS3 version, the PCs graphics was far better and I couldn't get on with the controls

i got an xbox360 and live as well but i do my gaming 99.9% on my pc. the fact is that there are more pc gamers than xbox360 gamers for sure.

Show me complete sales figures for the compared platforms, not just high street retail from a few monitored outlets in a particular country.

Same goes for piracy, those figures that were posted the other day about "top pirated games" were useless for comparison as 1 download != 1 piracy.

More diversity.

I don't think there's a way to look at overall sales but people on consoles generraly all buy the same sort of games.

people on the pc buy a large range of games but not all the same ones (hence low sales figures for each individual game)

Ie a lot will buy supcom and Coh who would never touch MW2.

etc.

@duran
Well you beat me by 9.9% so you must be right :)

yeah i've played 1 game in the past 2 years on my xbox360 :p

i think its pretty much common knowledge that the majority of pc games sell quite poorly these days with countless of examples.

If that kind of ignorant nonsense was even vaguely true than the prophecy of the dead PC platform would have come into fruition years ago. "Majority of" "poorly", have a word with yourself.

the sims 3 sold more units on pc alone this year than any game sold on any console, by a good few million units too ;) :p

you really believe that the sims 3 sold 11m+? trust me it did not. yes its one of the few pc games that sell well thats why i said "the majority".

pc gaming will never die but the sales of pc games are in an all time low. psp games sell even worse but psp is not dead.

I imagine the fact that it's in an extreme minority (i.e. PC exclusive(-ish) :p) helped here.. If it had been a multi-platform release, imho the number would be significantly cut down. Just my speculation though :)

yes and gaming was much smaller back then. why though?

Not going to post any evidence for that? just made it up in your head and that's good enough to go on? btw if you post even anything remotely related to NPD (whos methods of which data they deem relevant range from incompetently bad to bat **** insane) pack your bags and leave the interwebs.

(tip: PC games sales today dwarf those of ye olde)
