im not talking about the scripts, or the actors here, purely JUST based on eye candy, in your opinion, what is the most impressive looking Science Fiction show EVER created. even if its just one scene that made you sit up and go "ooooo perty things" what was it ? a vid link / pictures of it would be useful too :)

For my money purely for atmosphere and intensity its the Modern remake of battlestar galactica. ive been watching scifi for nearly 20 years now, and ive pretty much watched everything made be it based on storys on earth or space and aliens, and the Visual effects in this show are simply ground breaking in my opinion.

second place for me was Babylon 5. that show did incredible things with a tiny tiny budget and a bunch of Amiga 4000`s  :D

by the way, word on the street is that Babylon 5 is comming to the silver screen!!

third and finally, Deep Space 9 odly enough, i know many of you turned off DS9 after the first season and i will agree it was reeeeeal slow to start out but once it got rolling with the dominion war there were some real visual treats from season 4 onwards.

appologies for youtubes sucky server bandwidth, you may have to pause the vids to let them load up first.

p.s. note to mods, wasnt sure if i should put this in box office or not as its both TV which is usually in general and movies which is in box office.

Think it would be better appreciated it Box Office

meh, more people would see it in general, but oh well, at least theres still a link to it for the moment.

No links but Bladerunner's opening just made me gape. The flares, the buildings, the massive adverts on the sides of the towerblocks, the flying things, everything.

BSG has the best eye candy at the moment and really great sound effects and music to go with it.

DS9 also had some delicious effects whenever two armadas decided to have a scrap!

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis have some very good effects also.

The opening scene to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith!

Two, small snub fighters. Pan this huge star destroyer, only, it's a small fragment in a LARGER battle!

I'm not one for sci-fi series, but I thought the Stargate movie had a great look, not seen it in a long time though so it may have dated.

5th Element had the best eye-candy I can remember.

Honourable mention to Land Of The Giants, I loved that show as a kid.

I'd have to say the original Dune film.

I just found the whole thing to be incredibly epic. It's by no means the most advanced visually but I was in awe when I first watched it and still am when I watch it now.

People may laugh but I thought Independence Day was pretty stunning.

As far as TV series go, Space: Above and Beyond was very good in places too.

Not seen Serenity then? ;) :p

Not really on the same scale for sheer numbers of ships as some of the huge fleet battles in B5, although Serenity has by far the better CGI. That really isnt suprising due to the difference in ages and budgets involved.

Improvements in CGI aside I always felt the chaos was missing from B5 during the fleet actions whereas the scene in Serenity where the Reaver fleet ploughs headlong into the Alliance ambush captured it brilliantly.

Remember the first time you saw the T-1000 morphing?

You're too late. The effect was first done in "The Abyss". When I saw it used in T2 I thought that films would be saturated with it. It was good in the Abyss but I thought it was horrible in T2.

Star Wars... Something about good model work is timeless. Watch early CGI and it's horrible, but that opening sequence, and the Death Star bits, and the battle for Hoth all still look good today. When the star destroyer goes over, I just about wet myself the first time. Then again, I was about 6 the first time I saw it :D

Serenity was well executed, but I really didn't like the ship designs much. Especially the Alliance ones. The Serenity itself had an excellent interior, but it just looked daft to me.

The new Battlestar Galactica... Well, I wouldn't call it visually stunning. It's got a very real feel inside, but the outside cgi work just isn't up to much, even when it's not jerking around or zoomed right in. I reckon that was covering up for a lack of capability tbh. But combine the Battlestar interior sets and Babylon 5 or Star Trek exterior shots and you'd have a good combo. It must be some sci fi law, if the outside of your ship looks good, the inside has to be made out of cardboard.

DS9 had its great fleet moments, like the various attacks on the station...

Bladerunner, natcherly. Attack of the Clones too. Total, total overload there.

So, I'm going to go for the Fifth Element :D Well executed, amazing visual flair, total willingness to just get their head down and make a big colourful daft scifi mess. Genius.
