im not talking about the scripts, or the actors here, purely JUST based on eye candy, in your opinion, what is the most impressive looking Science Fiction show EVER created. even if its just one scene that made you sit up and go "ooooo perty things" what was it ? a vid link / pictures of it would be useful too :)

For my money purely for atmosphere and intensity its the Modern remake of battlestar galactica. ive been watching scifi for nearly 20 years now, and ive pretty much watched everything made be it based on storys on earth or space and aliens, and the Visual effects in this show are simply ground breaking in my opinion.

second place for me was Babylon 5. that show did incredible things with a tiny tiny budget and a bunch of Amiga 4000`s  :D

by the way, word on the street is that Babylon 5 is comming to the silver screen!!

third and finally, Deep Space 9 odly enough, i know many of you turned off DS9 after the first season and i will agree it was reeeeeal slow to start out but once it got rolling with the dominion war there were some real visual treats from season 4 onwards.

appologies for youtubes sucky server bandwidth, you may have to pause the vids to let them load up first.

p.s. note to mods, wasnt sure if i should put this in box office or not as its both TV which is usually in general and movies which is in box office.

Think it would be better appreciated it Box Office

meh, more people would see it in general, but oh well, at least theres still a link to it for the moment.

The new Battlestar Galactica... Well, I wouldn't call it visually stunning. It's got a very real feel inside, but the outside cgi work just isn't up to much, even when it's not jerking around or zoomed right in. I reckon that was covering up for a lack of capability tbh.

teheheheheheheAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... the galactica itself currently holds the world record for the most polygons used in a CGI model something daft like over 3 million :D it took 2 years to create the BSG fleet CGI models and the shakey documentary style exterior shots have not only Never been done but are immensely difficult to do as they add a ton of work to the rendered sequence.

Firefly used the documentary style shots first :)

BSG's effects are good, but none of them really stand out as spectacular.

im not talking about internal shots on board ship / terrestrial planet, im talking CGI based, firefly didnt use the documentary style for external shots, BSG makes it look like every viper pilot has a cameraman on board :D . and neither firefly nor BSG were the first ones to use the documentary style of shooting for internal / terrestrial shots.

to actually CGI footage in a documentary style is a very difficult and complex thing to do as anyone who has used lightwave (like i have) will tell you. CGI creation software isnt geared for free range camera movement, by its very nature it cant be as its pre programmed, it isnt real life, and on that basis a lot of effort has to go into making the documentary style CGI footage look real.

Yes. A rubbish cameraman :)

look if your going to thread trash, your not wanted here, so quit being a troll, i was appreciative and respectful of your choice as i have been of everyone's here, even SciFi that was way before my time i can appreciate its greatness. so either grow up or go play else where.

I came in here when i saw the B5 stuff but felt i needed to say something about BSG and how appalling this show actually is.

THe effects may be the most polygon intense ever but really you think that is good viewing? The jerky camera style is frankly annoying after the first time you see it.

thankfully its not annoying to the several million people in the USA who watch the show every week religiously. I like it and its not overdone as they don't use that style all the time. there are lots of nice steady "ordinary" camera uses too.

They need to start cutting down on the acting scenes in BSG and start ramping up the fights. None of the new charcters can act or play the parts half as good as the old series.

Starbucks a bloody women for starters..... and although she is a bit fiesty she aint cool enough.

ahahahahahahahaha.... rose tinted indeed, i watched season 1 of the old galactica today and let me tell you for the most part it was cheesy as hell, with many MANY actors doing a fine impersonation of cardboard... however it was enjoyable... i mean who the **** chose the guy who played the original Gaius baltar ??? i kept expecting the guy to laugh evilly and twizzle on some imaginary moustache... that plus he looks and sounds like a klingon from 60`s startrek.

The cylons.... well they are a bunch of faggots now to put it bluntly. they die to bullets... fracking bullets.... wheres the lazer beams???? no one wants to see bullets in space and nuclear weapons????? The irony of BSG was that they spend all their life getting to the 13th colony earth to find we are a bunch of 70s "noobs" with no advanced technology to help defeat the bad guys.

You called the new cylons faggots... did you forget this Cylon guy from the original series... he is a Cylon called Lucifer and features heavily in season 1 of the original series.
Luciferbg.jpg

im guessing you did. That cylon was as camp as Christmas, id say i was a fair judge of campness, and trust me, this guy made Liberace look straight.... as for no lasers, its better that way in my opinion, keeps the tech grounded a touch.

And you also have missed that there are different types of centurion, standard assault models do not cary heavy armour and can me killed with conventional weapons, the special assault teams one of which boarded galactia in a heavy transport were ALL armoured, it took explosive rounds to take them down. far more than the odd wimply single laser blast i saw the original toasters dropping to today.

Im sure future series of it will be better than the one i saw. better be lol ;)

its all fantastic but if you havent seen it in order its pretty pointless as the story is running from the 3 hr miniseries right through the life of the show. events have been set in motion and like Babylon 5, it makes no sense at all to late comers who think they can just drop in in the start of season 3 and understand the implications and consequences of actions past.
;)

It needs more casinos, more daggits and more "by your commands"

NOOOOO! late 70`s/early 80`s cheesiness is just wrong and should be confined to the periods from which is came. I mean who the hell would say "by your commands" other than a dominatrix in soho??

Caprica Cylon (called six, caprica six, and Caprica) = tricia helfer A.K.A Ford Supermodel of the World 1998.

began her career working for magazines such as “Elle,” “Vogue,” and “Cosmopolitan.”

Her campaigns also include the likes of Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Giorgio Armani and she has graced the catwalks of designers such as Versace, Dolce Gabbana, and Christian Dior to name a few.

i fully admit to being extremely attracted to Caprica 6. :D
