What is this thing?

Maybe its one of those signs that tells you what speed your doing or flashes up when doing over the limit, but hasn't been opened yet?
 
Stick a big block of plasticine to it, with an old circuit board on top and a couple of hidden batteries making a little LED blink on and off and some wires running from the plasticine to the circuit-board. Then just see what happens when someone comes back to check it. If you want to get really creative you can stick a little digital timer on it too.

That's definitely it, trouble is if I do anything to it I'm not going to be hard to find. I like the tin foil idea, but that might be construed as tampering with a road sign, which is fairly serious? I could label it and spoil the results though. :D

Is Will talking about the Gatso cameras that sometimes flash when approaching them as well as when driving away i.e. they normally take a rear facing picture, but can also take a front facing picture? Not seen any do that for a while, but used to happen quite frequently. As Gatso's are only type approved for rear facing pictures you were safe if snapped from the front.
