hey guys was just wondering what the resonable overclock level is for the 470 and whether your using stock cooling or other. i see some people have it clocked up to 800, I cant get no were near that before it crashes :(

For 24/7 use 800/1600 does me just fine. Just whack the voltage up to 1.087 easy. If I need a few more fps for the likes of Crysis I'll use up to 850/1700.

The 470 is the best clocking card I've ever owned, even more than my old 8800 ultra.

edit- my Zotac is a stock cooler by the way and I use afterburner and a custom fan profile to kick in the fan a bit earlier, keeps temps below 70 odd in games at 60% speed ish.

24x7 use:

1040mV
800MHz Core
1600Mhz Shader
2000MHz Memory

Max Stable:

1087mV
850MHz Core
1700MHz Shader
2000MHz Memory

I don't run 850MHz 24x7 as its just enough to push the fan audiable above the case noise after prolonged gaming or in more intensive games (and I rarely need the extra fps anyhow).

The VRAM is a weird one as I won't get anything close to 2000MHz stable on stock voltage at the max stable core clock on stock voltage (775MHz) and increasing the core voltage should have no effect on the memory - but with 800+MHz on the core I can run 2000MHz on the memory fine.

1025mV
800Mhz on the core
1600Mhz for the shaders
1800Mhz for the memory

I'm sure it would do more as I'm only using 1025mV, but its plenty fast enough for everyday use.

Just wondering, are you all running OCCT to test your clocks?

My card is game and bench stable at 821/1642/2000 1025mV but OCCT finds errors after about five minutes.

For the time being I've set it to 775/1550/2000 1025mV which passes an hour of OCCT without any errors. Cards default vid is 0.095mV.

Yeah your almost definitely gonna need more than 1025 to get 821 stable. 800MHz is about the very top end of what would be stable at that voltage.

What I meant was 1025 is the lowest I can set it to before the card becomes game and bench unstable, I tried upping it to 1062 but it still failed OCCT. I guess I could try 1087 but tbh I'd prefer the lower vcore over the few extra MHz. I was just wondering if others had also ran OCCT to confirm their oc's or if it were a case of them just running a bench or two and if it passes they're happy? I mean I could also claim 750/1500/1900 on stock 0.95 but I wouldn't as it doesn't pass the most stressful stab test that I know of. I'm the same when it comes to stressing cpu's so I don't see why it should be any different when it comes to stressing gpu's. I don't know, I guess stability is all in the eye of the beholder (might use that in my sig, lol).

Always furmark and EVGA OC Scanner test my GPU overclocks as well as intensive benchmarks and a couple of other tools, not used OCCT GPU test as in the past it used to fail as much from bad programming practises as the GPU being overclocked too far.

Officially to get it you need to register an EVGA product (doesn't have to be a GPU) not sure if its available elsewhere.

Well finally got my gtx470 flashed gtx465 up and running at the weekend under water.

First card benches on vantage fine at 900

More testing required to ensure stability.

Looking forward to doing some SLI runs and comparing them to my old single 5850 :D

For 24/7 use im on:

815Mhz - Core
1630Mhz - Shader
1800Mhz - Mem

That passes OCCT gpu test with no errors but i had it at 850Mhz and that was passing Furmark with no errors but failed badly when it came to OCCT

Temps im getting are 25oC idle and just touching 50oC load.

1050mV
core - 800mhz
shader - 1600mhz
Memory - 1800mhz

Actually overclocking now, been running furmark for an hour so looks stable. Has not run over 63C yet @ 70% fan which is quite audible, can't hear it while gaming. So will probably try pushing it more tonight. KFA2 Custom PCB+Fan f t w.

Will only use this during gaming, when surfing/watching movies I load my stock profile with lowest fan speed which is around 45c idle.

Upgrading from a bfg 285 gtx ocfu to a vanilla 470 gtx
My card is in transit, so looking forward to seeing what she will do.

800 core
1600 shader
1800 mem
1050mv
seems to be the average 24/7 oc on air but were are the water cooled results ?
Can someone do a gpu-z screenie at these speeds please

I,ve eddys finest block and back plate on route too, so i,m hoping to get above 900 core, stable (if its possible or not i,ll find out soon).

can someone do a gpu-z screenie at these speeds please

You'll be lucky to see 900. I have two gtx470's with EK blocks. Neither will run at 900 stable no matter what the voltage is. Temps aren't an issue as they fall over before they even go above 42C

In fact, as I have found with all my cards in recent years, watercooling hardly gets you any overclocking gain, maybe the odd 10 to 30Mhz max. All it does is gets rid of those nasty fan noises.

I have seen lots of people on air cooling with better overclocks than water so it really does come down to the individual card as to whether you got a good or a bad one.

This is because you are hitting the physical speed limit of the shader core in an nvida GPU.

Extra cooling just buys you more volts really. Doesn't buy you more speed.

Does anyone get random crashes when using a custom fan profile?
I had 2 video crashes whilst playing games with msi afterburner running a custom fan profile but no overclock.
The profile i made was keeping the card a lot cooler than the default settings aswell so its not overheating. Really stumped as to why it happends :(
