What is your methodology for choosing your next game to play?

I tend to stick to mainstream titles unless I catch my eye on something that looks fun but isn't hugely known, then I'll fork out for it if it looks enjoyable. But for the most part, purely mainstream. Friend of mine is really into his games so I tend to get the lowdown of all the new stuff from him and just make my decisions from there.

I just look out for the bargains all the time of games from last year or beyond. I only buy higher priced games released recently or new releases if they are A+ titles and I dont want to wait for them to drop in price to peanuts.

I just go by the general rule, if it plays/looks like a decent game (I dont always care much for reviews), I either play the game/demo and watch gameplay vids on youtube. If it ticks the boxes then I buy it.

Only if my friends are playing it. Otherwise it's not worth my time these days! It's not like when I was at school and didn't have to worry about anything in life, meaning I could afford to game ALL day.

So an example would be Guild Wars 2, but I always let my friends buy it first for a week before I join, rather than the other way around and then they don't bother and abandon me! Then I get bored after the first month's free sub and never bother again. Many people think MMORPGs are massive timesinks but I think a decent one offers fantastic casual gaming as well. Nothing beats the occasional evening in gaming with your mates via Skype.

Games of this type I've enjoyed in the past include CSS, Team Fortress 2 and my favourite Co-Op of all time: Left 4 Dead!

The only game I don't play online is FIFA because that's something I can come home after work with and have a quick 15 minute game.

If the game I'm currently playing is a long drawn out affair, like Skyrim or similar RPG, or a long campaign strategy game like Total War, the next game I play will usually be a no brainer FPS to allow me to "come down", even if it means revisting one I've already completed. Currently I am playing Skyrim and am feeling like playing Crysis again afterwards for some reason. Vica versa, after a couple of FPS's I'll usually find a strategy game or another RPG.

I generally look at the cover art if that looks good im sold ! :p

But I don't really have a method to picking games. I just look at my steam list and think I really should get around to playing that lol. I have such a backlog of games I have bought on steam and some never touched or even downloaded. (that said most of these games are bought on cheapy deals)

Otherwise for new games. One will catch my attention and I will have a brief read around maybe look at a few youtube clips if its a game I think I will like I will buy it and go from there.

Time since I've played the game last is a fair priority, and I'll usually want a different genre or setting than what I just finished. Besides that, just whatever catches my interest when browsing.

Is it installed tends to be the main question. Also is it as addictive as FM as that has become a staple...

Other than that it tends to be based on is it civ and does it look fun.
