Hi guys,

Not being the most informed when it comes to tyres bar you get what you pay for and them being the only thing in contact with the ground, I was hoping some of you chaps may have the knowledge to assist me. I've done a search but not found precisely what I'm looking for.

I know a few chaps on here have owned an ST24 so know the car etc. tyres 205/50/16. My car is not used even in the slightest to drive hard, it's simply used as a bus from home to work and back. I don't use this car to have fun, whatsoever. However, I do value my life and indeed my passengers.

What kind of tyre would you think is suitable for me at a reasonable cost? I'm not looking for some cheapo plastic budget tyre but then I don't also see the need for those that are suited for spirited drives as I don't bother (ie. £150 per corner).

I appreciate your time and advice,
Mike.

A strange choice of car for being used simply a bus. One wonders why you didnt instead buy a different specification Mondeo with a smaller engine which would have been far more suited.

Never mind.

I always used to run Eagle F1 GS-D3 on mine, although the more touring orientated Goodyear Hydragrip or EfficientGrip is about the same price at £78 corner at Camskill.

You're absolutely right Fox. Genuinely and I agree with you. Naturally when I first had the car I did buy it for the engine and enjoyed driving it. However my situation changed, I moved closer to work and then most of my time was/is spent commuting. For the age of the car, though, and the cost of 'downgrading' I can't see there being a huge benefit. T reg / 99.

Those are some good prices for all the tyres mentioned. I had a quick browse on CamSkill but there were so many tyres I thought you guys would be best (and evidently that rang true).

Thanks both.

Back to the sideline, in your opinion Fox and appreciating that opinion because you've had the car before - would it be worthwhile moving on?

Probably not - if the fuel economy isn't posing you any sort of issue at this end of the car market its very much better the devil you know.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas? I fitted a set on my Leon and they're great in the wet and dry.. Seem to get good review from most places and not overly expensive! :)

Out of interest what kind of mileage did you get per tank? This thing is pretty poor I'll admit that, my commute now is only ~10 miles. When I say poor, I mean unsuitable for this kind of journey ;)

About 300 miles around town but mine had the 2.0 16v engine as it was a Ghia X RSAP not an ST24 (Same wheels, kit, etc though).

Makes me feel somewhat better - I seem to average around 320ish.
